The NFL Thread

Missy Elliot and Lenny were cack. Katy Perry was good. I loved the dancing sharks on the beach bit!

To be fair though I'd let Katy Perry curl off a Cleveland Steamer on my chest any time she wanted.

All early kickoffs at Wembley this year. I'll be going to all of them! Can't wait!!

loved perry at halftime, you bunch of scrooges

great game so far

How the hell do you not just give it Lynch in that situation?!! Ridiculous.

WHY WOULD YOU THROW A FUCKING INSIDE SLANT @)($U(ASU)D(J@O$:JAW

on one hand, I wanted seattle to win

on the other hand, since the pats win, it means I was 100% in my playoffs pick em. it's nice to be right, I am psychic!

Stupidest playcall ever. The odds of Lynch not making it in from the 1 yard line with at least 2 attempts are about 1 in 20. Good game though.

That was a great Super Bowl, Brady was on fire in the 4th quarter but Seattle should have run it in for the lead at the end. Ridiculous call.

Only just got round to watching second half. As you've all said, ridiculous call!

Actually angry about it

Australian rugby player Jarryd Hayne has signed with the San Francisco 49ers.

Personally I think he's nuts. Why give up elite status in rugby for what will likely be (at absolute best) a special teams spot in the NFL? I guess he wants to prove people like me wrong and all that but I just can't see it happening. No chance.

I'm hard pressed to believe that a rugby player with as many accolades as Hayne wouldn't make more in salary alone (not even including what I must assume would be plenty of lucrative endorsement deals in Australia that he simply won't get here) than the NFL's minimum wage, which is what he'll almost certainly be making.

I have no idea what he will be on on the NFL, but rugby league players don't make much over here. Google tells me he's on £250,000 p/a, where does this stand compared to the NFL?

Parramatta aren't one of the big payers. If he was at Brisbane Broncos he would be on a fair wedge.

Can anyone explain what franchise tag means please? I know it's something to do with free agents and I keep seeing that teams have opted not to use it but can't work out what it is!

NFL minimum salary is around $400k for roster players. if you're only on the practice squad it's waaaaaay less. like 80k.

short version, franchise tagging a player ensures that the player remains with your team for another year. the salary is the average of the top-5 at your position. typically used on players who the team weren't able to work out a contract deal with and they don't want to lose to free agency, so they place the tag to give them the next year to work out a deal.

if you're interested in more detail this article looks pretty good: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...ou-need-to-know-about-the-nfls-franchise-tag/

So his salary will be much higher if he makes it.
