The NFL Thread

The Cheatriots must have more than half an eye on Cam Newton then.
Can't see anyone taking Newton until they can give him a medical. There's a reasonable chance he's broken. Brees is likely to be only doing one more season given he's signed with ESPN for the year after so Winston is putting himself in pole position to be the replacement. Its whether you can coach the turnovers out of him, I don't think you can

Not a disastrous Draft for The Bears.

Got players with promise, in positions they needed to strengthen and also picked up Khalil Mack's little brother as a free agent

The Bears are bang average right now, I just don't see how they've improved their aqua in any position over the off season. Very strange team.

I'm sort of impressed with Washington. Chase Young is very special. But there are still a lot of gaps in the roster to sort. I really think Rivera will go for Newton. MASSIVE risk with huge pay-off if successful.

The biggest issue the Redskins have hot is Rivera. He's a bang average HC, the David Moyes of the NFL. No chance he gets the best out of the talent there.

I've not paid attention to their drafting after the first round, but they have a reasonable defense and have just drafted a generational talent as an Edge rusher. Young is rated even higher than Bosa. Riverboat Ron is a defense minded coach I think they'll have a play off calibre team that side of the ball.

Its offense that's an issue, McLaurin is a good deep threat, but I'm not convinced by Haskins and their one pro bowl quality player Williams has finally left for the 49ers. They have a running back by committee approach mainly because there's nothing there rather than for variation. Peterson is a Hall of Famer but is washed.

Don't think there is much chance of the Redskins going for Newton, they drafted Haskins in the first round last year - you'd have to think they are going to give him chance to play and prove he can be the starter going forward.

Having a high profile player like Cam backing him up would probably be counter productive as a few losses and the calls for Haskins to come out would begin

Don Shula has passed away. Most wins of any head coach in NFL history.

Schedule is out. If games at the front end of the season need to be moved they'll be tagged to the back rather than moving the match ups already set around. If the season needs to be reduced it'll be the week 3&4 games which don't get rescheduled first

The releasing of lockdown in certain States in the US seems to have encouraged players to wave their guns around. 4 nicked for various firearms felonies in the last couple of days. 1 each from the Giants, Skins, Bills and Seahawks

The two idiots charged with armed robbery will go down for years.

What did the Skins player do? The ex-Skin in the shit with the Giant is now with the Seahawks

Cody Latimer was arrested and booked on the following charges: Assault in the 2nd Degree, Menacing, Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Prohibited Use of a Weapon and Reckless Endangerment

Punts re contract and cap

Teams often put the biggest values in voidable years. Darius Slay signed for the Eagles on a headline $50.5m 3 year deal, but structured so that none of that is guaranteed in year 3 when he theoretically would earn $20m, so they'll either cut him after year 2 or rework the contract.

Contracts are often even longer from a cap perspective Slays is spread across 4 years, but with limited dead money in the final 2. Essentially the $50.5m will be $26m to Slay across 2 years and $30m across 4 on the cap.
