The NFL Thread

I think they'll look at the longer term picture give him a red shirt season and work on his strength and conditioning. Fitzmagic is competent enough in the sort term.

Jerry Jones picking a player he doesn't need to spite Philly was quite entertaining. Stupid use of resource just to be a nob.

It did seem odd as they have a ton of talent at WR but it does give the Cowboys a set of trade chips to play with.

Usually the press over here mock the Cowboys for Jerry's choices, but this time they think he made the right pick - the best player on the board.

Packers, Saints, Giants, Seahawks are the ones coming in for some stick.

BPA is fine if you can afford a luxury pick, their defense is full of holes though so the pick is more about not letting a competitor get him than your own needs. Puts a lot of pressure on him to fill those holes in the next two days.

The Eagles tried to trade with the Falcons to get to 16, but smelling desperation they wanted too much. Whether that proves to be the case will depend on the careers of Lamb and Reagor. Personally I would have given a low 3rd and a low 4th as the Eagles have comp picks there to go from 21 to 16, but not a 2nd so depends on what they wanted.

A colleagues son will hopefully be drafted either today or tomorrow
Watch out for Jauan Jennings from Tennessee

Projected to go late in the 3rd or early in the 4th round apparently

Wouldn't mind Washington using a pick on him. Done alright getting Chase Young but the traded out second round pick might hurt the franchise as the draft progresses.

Dunno. They need a third WR and they were predicting Lamb to go off first In top 10, so him sliding was good value. The secondary is weak In this draft apparently so will expect better value picking their in the second and third.

Jennings 40 yard dash seems a little behind the top guys who went in round one, but he is still going to have an excellent chance of a good pro career at WR. Plus the "being a QB for one play" gag might be entertaining.

Apparently the guy New York Jets drafted is 6ft 7in, 26 stone and can run a 40 yard dash in 5.1 seconds. Near enough a human tank!

He was a QB in high school, drafted to The Vols as a WR which he wasn't happy about but decided to 'go with it according to his mom.
Pretty much watched him from high school thru his college career. The 40 yard dash isn't what he really is though. Give him the ball and he'll run all day with people on his back take a look at his 'hail Mary' against Georgia a few seasons ago

YAC is a stat that is always underrated and speed is always over rated. I'm sure I read somewhere that it's the ability to run routes and have proper timing than the speed to beat somebody in a straight line.

On second thoughts if you are going to spend your second round pick on a QB for gadget plays then you may as well have given it to the Falcons and got the best WR in the draft and stopped him from going to your biggest rival. Not often my first audible what the fuck of the day is before 8am. If the season goes badly the ever so patient Philly fans will burn the stadium down.

If he makes the roster which as a 7th round pick is 50/50 he'll have one hell of a ride

A few teams seem to have to come out of the draft pretty well. The Dolphins have, but given the number of draft picks they accumulated their GM would have had to have been stupid to mess it up. Jets also have done well and I like what the Jaguars seem to have done.

Apparently Jameis Winston is off to the Saints on a one year deal.. Odd move all round.

The Cheatriots must have more than half an eye on Cam Newton then.

Newton doesn't fit the Belichik mould. I still don't know where he'll end up.

I think the Saints have taken Winston to see if he could be the successor to Brees for a while. Maybe Peyton can get him to stop throwing the ball to the opposition.
