The Manager Sacked/Hired Thread 2022/23

I went to a game at Bescot in the mid 90s, we were playing away on the same day (can't remember who). Huge cheer when it came through that we were losing 1-0 at half time although happily I'm fairly sure we ended up winning. They've forever had this weird thing with Wolves, at the time we hadn't even played them for about 10 years.

I went to school in Walsall, there's virtually zero presence for the club in the town centre - you wouldn't even know there was a football club that bore the name - and hardly anyone who lives in and around the town supports them. Basically Wolves areas in one direction, Villa the more you head towards Streetly and out towards Sutton Coldfield, a couple of pockets of Albion on the outskirts.

Can't say I've ever met a Walsall fan - I even worked a day a week in a big office there for a couple of years.

Seems I'm alone on this one. That said, if the barometer is the fans sing nasty songs, well pretty much all fans do that tbh.
Call me old fashioned but I wouldn't sing a song about a fan of a rival club who was murdered and left behind a young family. It wasn't just the song either, it was everywhere on social media, so forgive me if it somewhat colours my judgement.

I used to follow them as a second team, but the vitriol they spout towards Wolves is just bizarre, I'd rather go down the Albion than Walsall, at least theres some sort of mutual respect.

Who else could Walsall have a rivalry with?

In fact, we should introduce them to Norwich. They could be united in their weird hatred of Wolves

They used to have a sort of rivalry with Crewe, might still do for all I know. Shrewsbury as well.

When we were in league one Paul Franks on WM kept on saying Dean Smith should get manager of the season ahead of Jackett. Now I know you have to take into account resources but we finished 45 points ahead of them FFS.

Bob Warman is a Walsall fan

Might have been the E&S but an article on the remainder of that season had us losing out on the top 2 as Orient and Brentford were looking unstoppable (we were top) but also said Walsall had a chance of finishing 2nd...they were something like 15 points behind the unstoppable duo at the time

Apparently Roy Keane turned Sunderland down as he wanted to bring in his own staff and they didn't want to pay compo

Looks like they have plumped for Alex Neill

I thought it was because they wouldn't buy him out of his Sky contract? At least that's what was reported yesterday

On Walsall you get similar one way rivalries throughout football. It's all in the power dynamics, most fans of the larger team aren't fussed or wish them well and that indifference is read as arrogance/condescension.

Rotherham despise Sheffield Wednesday for the same reasons.

Most Walsall fans I’ve ever known was 3 when I worked on ring and ride at wednesbury depot

I've a couple of mates who support Walsall, the one does have a unswerving hatred of Wolves which I find quite endearing in an immensely patronising way

Stoke fans absolutely fucking despise Manchester United. United fans find this hilarious.

Villa had a Man Utd hate in the 90s as they never got to play any of us, Blues or Albion in the league for the entire decade and they couldn't give a toss about Coventry (who in turn, hate Villa).

United were of course nonplussed by this.

Sunderland hating Coventry (and they really do) is leftfield! All down to a season in the mid 70s when they were both fighting relegation, Cov just happened to get their kick off delayed on the final day and so were 15 minutes behind the Sunlun game. Once it was clear that a draw would do for them, they Austria-West Germany'd it.

Any Wolves fans under the age of 30 are unlikely to appreciate exactly why we hate Bolton.
