The Manager Sacked/Hired Thread 2017/18

They are only now looking at getting enough to stay up - BFS gives a them possibility of doing that, but nothing else

Still doesn't address any weakness in any way & will be a grind to the end of the season - most Club's are so afraid of going down, though sometimes it's the only way to sort out deep rooted issues

Apparently, Pardew to be announced at Wet Brom tomorrow (according to Sky Sports)

So he was absolutely dire at palace, won't be much better at the Albion, jobs for the boys again

It is uninspiring, but he does have a good record in the first year, they don't have a bottom 3 squad so he'll probably keep them up. Don't see him being there for more than 18 months though and he is possibly the man with the most misplaced arrogance in football.

After Saunders, surely?

Pardew confirmed at Albion - John Carver also in as his assistant.

Megson has left the club.

Big Sam at Everton all but done. Club confirm he is at the club to finalise the deal. Unsworth in charge tonight v West Ham

At least the tracksuit sizes won't need to be changed.

He'll end up buying players in January and grinding to 14th or so. Which is fine and all that, but his time at Sunderland and Palace tells you he won't walk into a shit squad and get them playing. His early results there were awful. It was only when he signed people and bedded them in that there was an upturn. Well, fine and all that, but he isn't the only manager in the world who can do business in the market.

Given they have ambitions to push for the top six and he has finished in the top six once ever, this isn't an appointment with any kind of eye on the long term, and yet he's getting a long term deal. Plus he's a lying shite, he "retired" six months ago. Wanted time to experience stuff that he couldn't do as a PL manager. That lasted well.

I reckon they will bin him in May, even if he keeps them up and go back for Silva. Sam will be happy with that as a long term contract = massive pay out

£12m two and a half year term so a £10m pay-off... Not bad work if you can get it

Doesn't work like that these days (unless Everton are really stupid...maybe they are), there'll be a break clause.

Very unlikely for instance that we'll have paid Lambert a full year's wages to go away. Ditto Zenga (well, nine months or so in his case). Koeman didn't get a full payout on the three years (or whatever it was) remaining on his deal. Had his contract run to its conclusion, David Moyes would still be at Man Utd now, he isn't still being paid by them though.

Blackburn are the highest profile example of really fucking it up. Appointed Henning Berg on a big long-term deal, sacked him inside 3-4 months, no break clause. Had to pay him the lot. Highish profile precisely because it doesn't happen, unless you are Venkys and you have the same expertise in contractual law as a wheely bin.

Why does this make me think of Robbie Keane's sell-on clause?

Isn't 10% £1.3m? Or even if you did it on profit, £750k. Either way it's a fucking clanger.

It'd be profit, we lost £250k on the deal, but that's hindsight we got an extra £500k up front which we went and spent on a squad rebuild bringing in the likes of Akinbiyi, Ndah, Oakes and Ludo from memory. It's always portrayed that we lost out on millions, but in footballing terms even for the late 90's it wasn't really a lot

750k on £5.5m, or £6m without sell on is us only missing out on 250k. Hardly a clanger.

My fave comment on the sell on clause was the guy who ranted that we missed out on millions as he failed to realise the sell on clause only worked on the 1st transfer after he left us and he thought every big money move he made we would have got 15% of the fee.
