The Manager Sacked/Hired Thread 2014/15

You see, it's Kenny that's made me believe that you defend the indefensible as far as managers are concerned.

Insanity. Absolute insanity. I hope they implode and we finish comfortably ahead of them.

Yep. Benham, being a blue sky thinking kind of bellend, reckons they should have specialised set piece coaches and pay much more attention to sport science, presumably because he has seen it working well somewhere else and just wants to copy it. Warburton has said he coaches how he wants and it doesn't seem to be going too badly, so keep your beak out. Result = end of job.

Hardly a bellend, Deutsch - Physics degree (from Cambridge, I think), worked for a hedge fund, founded Smartodds.
Have to say I think a specialist free kick coach is a perfectly sensible idea

I'm sure he's a clever guy. He does strike me though as someone who read Moneyball once and thinks he knows the lot about how sport should work.

yeah I would hope the same. Warburton has done nothing wrong - in fact he's probably exceeded expectations. If any promoted club was going to threaten the top 6 it ought to have been us not them but right now they're doing the best out of all the promoted clubs - compare that to Doncaster who were immediately relegated for example!

Is Warbuton having his contract terminated or does it expire in the summer anyway?

As I understand it he's on a one year rolling deal like all Wolves' managers have been since 2005. So he's working a form of notice (the rest of this season) followed by a period of gardening leave (final day of the season -> 12 months from today).

Suppose that is the one drawback of the rolling contract, it does make it a bit more difficult to go for a clean break without someone being put out.

If it were the end of his contract and Brentford just decided they wanted to let it expire then go with someone else is in a different direction then I don't think you can really knock it, it still seems bizarre that they'd want to go down a different path considering he's doing so well and doesn't appear to have reached his ceiling yet but that's their right. If they'd been sacking him to bring someone else in immediately, like Southampton did with Adkins, then you'd think it's extremely harsh on him, even if the new guy turns out to be an improvement as Pochettino did at Southampton.

I think the rolling contract sort of blurs that though, I suppose they've given him plenty of notice so he can start looking for something else, you'd think it'd be pretty easy for his agent to approach a few clubs who look to be underachieving with a view to appointing him in the summer but it still seems a bit harsh that they're making an effort to get rid when he hasn't done anything wrong on the face of it.

Personally I think Brentford are right to be ruthless about this if they really feel someone better is out there.

Warburton will find work somewhere.

I agree with your principle, but not the methodology. They should have either got rid straight away or made sure it didn't get out. They were 5th in the league when this was leaked, have lost both games since and will now miss the play offs when previously they had a good chance. Teams with "dead men walking" managers never perform well in English football.

I agree with you Alan. I would pay Jackett up and bring Warburton in at Wolves. Always looking to improve the club.

Be careful Johnny, dangerous ground that. For what it is worth i don't have a problem with what Brentford are doing if they think it's best and another manager can progress them further. You would be foolish to keep anyone if there is someone you think is better available. Obviously things have gone on that have made them think this way about Warburton.

Warburton would not improve Wolves IMO.

Agreed. FWIW I actually advocated us sacking Saunders two weeks after we appointed him and getting Adkins in, so I'm not immune to the principle of upgrading when you can. I don't think Warburton is an appreciable upgrade on Jackett.

brentford (until the last two games anyway) play the most attractive football that I've seen in this division by far. I love the way they play out from the back. I can't imagine who Brentford will bring in that the players will take to as well as they have Warburton since he became manager last season.

I'd agree with that YW and with a weaker squad than ours too. I think Warburton would be a fine appointment but I do understand the 'be careful what you wish for' stance that some will take.

I would take Warburton if Jackett left or we were doing terribly and he got sacked but I don't think it would be worth trading them in our current situation.

I agree with the principle of what Brentford are doing - it's what we should have done with Mick after that Blackburn game that kept us up - but Brentford are already over performing and I can only see them imploding from here.
