The Manager Sacked/Hired Thread 2014/15

Apparently refused to sign foreign players he hadn't seen play. If true I admire his principles

It sounds like Benham has seen that Brentford have a real chance of promotion, made money available to Warburton to strengthen and the Warburton and the coaching staff had reed signing more new players could upset the balance and morale of the squad. When Brentford have gone to players agents now they haven't been able to promise immediate first team football to their targets.

Sherwood thinks he is Rinus Michels in a gilet, but I think he will be found wanting at Villa and they will go down without a whimper

Why have the lunatics given him a three year deal?

I think he could keep them up.

Why exactly?

Will he get the team "showing a bit more gut"? Massively overrated at Spurs and a bit of a wanker to boot.

He has no credentials, pulled up no trees at Spurs either.

Absolutely no track record to speak of, what a bizarre appointment. Welcome to the Championship Villa.

Come to think of it, has it ever been confirmed that he has actually done his coaching badges now?

Villa have a decent squad of players, not least with good attacking players in Gil, Benteke, Agbonlahor, N'Zogbia, Weimann, and if he has shown anything from his time at Tottenham it's that he tries to get his team to attack with pace.

He did some baffling things at Spurs but he showed he was a fairly quick learner and got better as time went on. He's a highly regarded coach and I think the fact that he will take the shackles off will see them put in much better performances.

He's a cock but he did well enough with Spurs.

Villa do have some good players so if he can give them some confidence going forward they should be OK.

I remember at Spurs he had to show commitment to complete his Pro License. That was towards the end of December so he's either at the final stages of it or has completed it I would say. No idea though. He already had the A License at the time.

I'm sorry N'zogbia and Agbonlahor use to be decent, the later turns up once every ten games.

Use to be decent until McLeish and Lambert came along, which is kind of my point. I'm not saying he's going to work wonders but I think they will do enough to stay up, whereas under Lambert I thought they were doomed.

In the short term perhaps (far from a rock solid appointment like Pulis was for Albion though - the minute he was appointed you thought they were safe). In the long term I would have serious doubts if he's going to produce anything other than another relegation fight.

They are already committed to paying Lambert until 2018 (at least, until he finds another job) so let's give someone with little by way of track record a deal of the same length.

The length of contract is mad I agree and sets them up to look very silly again if he does crap.

Basically if he gets Benteke playing, as he got Adebayor playing last year, they'll probably stay up. Leicester and Burnley look pretty dead to me so you probably only have to finish above one of Hull, QPR or Sunderland. I'm coming round to the idea of the latter going down, Poyet is an absolute wanker and they play just as rubbish football as Villa did under Lambert.
