Is it that they didn't mind Doyle going with an option to buy, whereas that isn't available for McAtee?
Probably, or more specifically the notion that we can buy him for £5m or so below his market worth. It's 'winning' in the negotiation and financial sense, not sure it is in a football one though

Podence and Adama and Nunes.............rarely produced quality . All clubs need a high number of players who will put in a shift week after week , those three didn't .
I appreciate that.

But having lots of steady eddies also means a lot of side to side passing and very few chances get taken. See squads of Pulis, Allardyce or Dyche for details.

Every team needs that bit of flair.

Hopefully Sarabia, Cunha, Neto or RAN can provide enough.

The rules are...

E.48. If the PSR Calculation results in a loss of in excess of £15m then the following shall apply:
E.48.1. the Club shall provide, by 31 March in the relevant Season, Future Financial Information to cover the period commencing from its last accounting reference date (as defined in section 391 of the Act) until the end of T+2and a calculation of estimated aggregated Adjusted Earnings Before Tax until the end of T+2 based on that Future Financial Information;
E.48.2. the Club shall provide such evidence of Secure Funding as the Board considers sufficient; andE.48.3. if the Club is unable to provide evidence of Secure Funding as set out in Rule E.48.2, the Board may exercise its powers set out in Rule E.15.
E.49. If the PSR Calculation results in losses of in excess of £105m:
E.49.1. the Board may exercise its powers set out in Rule E.15; and
E.49.2. the Club shall be treated as being in breach of these Rules and accordingly the Board shall refer the breach to a n constituted pursuant toSection W of these Rules (Disciplinary)
i think i'd read an article suggesting it needed to be equity but may just be the writer didn't understand stuff. no reason 'secure funding' couldn't be a loan. you'd think there should be additional rules for loans - eg) if the secure funding is in form of a loan it can only be repaid out of profits or new equity raises. I don't think it changes the scenario i put other than not needing to do an equity conversion.

for going concern Fosun would have to be providing evidence of support anyway (eg guarantee not to call in the loan), it's just that many dodgy past owners of football clubs didn't or couldn't.

There's a distinct lack of flair now isn't there?

Whilst many had their flaws, Adama, Neves, Nunes, Raul and Podence were all capable of the unexpected, and have all gone/won't be seen in a Wolves shirt again.
It does feel that way, it's more in hope that the new young players turn into the 'flair' players I suppose.
Maybe Neto will find his best form again and of course Cunha looks brilliant at times.

It also needs a rock solid defence, which is far from a given

I don't think Sheffield are getting an option on McAtee - it's purely with a view to developing City's talent for them.
If that helps you start up who cares. You can then build from that.

Also doesn't tie you down to a player if you go down.

Downside is as you point out but if that were the case City would insist on a buyback or ridiculous sell on fee anyway.

We’re absolutely an 11th and below side that’s first priority is hitting 38 points, I the squad is stronger than the one that started the first game but I still think we could go down.

New coach around the middle of October I would think and will have us comfortably 11-14th at the end of the season.

Maybe even the return of the Lop?

I agree with the point broadly, but at least half of those you list did the unexpected...and their teammates didn't expect it either

Someone I know who’s seen a bit of Bellegarde says he’s ‘fun to watch’ so that’s something I guess?

I can't see us being worse than Luton or Sheff U.

Then it's between us, Burnley, Everton, Forest, Fulham and Bournemouth.

You'd imagine we'd be better than 1 of them at least.

It's next season that really worries me, but a hell of a lot can change by then.

Yes - but do you remember Costa's one , bit over the top with the dogs at time for a player who wasn't even fit then .

Not even sure if the players care a whole pile either , probably just want to get on that training ground .
Was tongue in cheek.

And yeah, Costa one was superb. Although the Gomes one was just cheeky.

Nothing beats the neves one still for me - potentially because it set us on the path we went on, and he’s a bonafide legend Ofcourse

The Squad is better than Luton, Sheff Utd, Everton and Burnley. So that should see us safe but you know it’s not always like that.

Unsure whether the last part is a joke. But do you think Lop could come back? Surely not!

We'd need to lose every game for GON to be gone in October.

I just can't see it, he's neither Lage or Saunders levels.
