The Incoming Transfers Everywhere Thread: Summer 2023

It's underwhelming, but another midfielder with legs isn't a bad thing to add to the squad if we are going to continue to press the way we do. In addition to the inevitable injuries and suspensions I read that the ACON starts on Jan 13th and we could lose both Lemina and Traore to it. Gabon have to win their last game and have another result go their way. Mali have already qualified, although Boubacar currently is only a u21, so need to cover that eventuality

Basing an urgency of need on a tournament in January to repair a potential problem when the defence is currently, like now, utterly unfit for purpose and the forward line has no effective focal point would be a height of extreme folly.

I don't mind Brownhill tbh but unless he can play CB I'm not interested. He'd also be 4th or 5th choice CM. Unless of course someone else leaves...

We wouldn't be signing him instead of a centre half. If we don't sign one of those it'll be by choice and not because we've signed Brownhill. Treating it as an either/or is to give credence to the club's propaganda

If we’re going to play a more expansive style and ask our midfielders to cover more ground is putting a lot of pressure on two 22 year olds with a handful of starts between them. Obviously we need at least one CH but Brownhill could play a big role. His stats in the Championship last year were excellent. Another not-exciting-but-will-do-a-job type player.

Back to the stats based approach if we're buying tat like Brownhill.

Some people never learn.

- Sign an ex-player back on a free transfer when we were all delighted to get some money for him in the first place

- Sign a journeyman lower league goalkeeper to "make up the numbers" on the advice of our goalkeeper coach, who then leaves the club a week later

- Have deals agreed (or be close to) players like Elvedi & Alex Scott but then say we don't have the money

- Spend the rest of the summer chasing Aaron Cresswell & Josh Brownhill when we're desperately short in other areas

- Turn down £30m for Max Kilman, promote him to captain AND give him a pay rise

- recoup the best part of £100m in transfer fees and offload a load of high earners, but enter the last week of the transfer window having not spent a penny

- let your manager leave in the week leading up to the first game

Only Wolves. You genuinely couldn't make it up.

Its as if Adrian Chiles and Frank Skinner are controlling us on Football Manager

Other than the fact that he's agreed to be a Shi yes man post Sellars, the Kilman stuff could be the biggest red flag on Hobbs.

When you put it like that I don’t know why I’ve been feeling so negative…
