The Football News Thread 2020/21

Listening to the 'Wake up to money' show on the business of football and Moxey is on there espousing the benefits of project big picture.

A man that is everything that is wrong in the game of football. He is involved in a company called General Sports Management according to the podcast that helps buyers and sellers in football get together (involved in the Derby County sale). He still is director at Burton and a NED at the EFL. How that isn't a conflict of interest I'll never know.

The Brighton CEO explained that Project Big Picture was the same as the ESL in that it was a clandestine plan cooked up for the 'Big 6' to get more money.

I fucking despise Moxey and the sooner he is out of the game the better.

Of course that snake would be all over the the idea of big picture. Luckily he had neither the imagination or intellect which is why the so called Best In The Business is rattling around at a footballing backwater looking in and never part of the conversation.

He'd have been dangerous if he had any clout, he'd be the kind of Drongo bootlicking the top six grateful for whatever scraps they dropped off the table to us plebs.

As I said a couple of days ago, it's teenagers going with their mates that's lost. That's partly price and partly availability. When I was 15/16 I could go to 2 games a week on the bus, buy a programme and still have enough left over for a couple of bottles of Diamond White, all from my paper round money.

Dan is right about MOTD though, my son fast forwards the punditry and that's not his commentary on it's quality

This still held in the late 90's. I worked two paper rounds for two newsagents morning and evening, my dad funded my home season ticket but my paper round funded my away season ticket with my mate.

Its not just football either in this country, my two loves are Wolves and music. At 16/17 me and my mates would blow our EMA on live music going to gigs pretty much every week at the Wulfrun and lil Civic, went to Download every year into our mid 20's. I found out this week that this year it should've been £250 for Download. For that I could buy my ticket. fly to Germany, and have enough left over for a crate of beer at Rock AM Ring.

Young adults are a complete afterthought in both.

Download is a rip off. You can go VIP for the whole weekend at Bloodstock for about £160.

There is a slight mitigation in the music world as I understand artists don't make much from the actual music compared to years ago so that's why concerts have become more expensive. I couldn't tell you when I last physically bought a CD, it's just a tenner a month to Spotify

I mean there's a wee bit of truth to it; plenty of research to say that young people don't even have the patience to sit through Match of the Day properly, let alone full matches on TV. They just want to see the goals ASAP and that's it.

I say it's because young people are twats with the attention span of a gnat. I can say that now I'm 40.

In all seriousness, it is a problem. I look around the North Bank and either people have aged horribly or I'm still one of the youngest there.

You should come and stand with me & the cool kids at the back of S2 if you want to see more yoof at the football.

I'm not a fan of manky bedsheets but thanks for the offer x

No Manchester City. How strange. No Arsenal is really fucking odd as they were shirt sponsors!

How strange was ironic for City as I think you are correct that they were at low ebb. Getting United to allow use of their badge is always blood from a stone. Liverpool it is now obviously but that game would have been when they were still owned by the Moore’s family and they didn’t give much notice to it. As I say, the surprise is Arsenal. The game must have pre dated the Dreamcast shirt sponsorship.

Probably the developer not paying for the fees

There was also UEFA Striker and UEFA Dream soccer on the Dreamcast so will certainly have been licensing. I can't remember which it is but one of those games had the option of women's teams, a feature that it took EA another 20 years to do.

I am actually part of the staff/contributors for a Dreamcast site bizarrely enough, so this gag is my centre of the venn diagram being on this forum!

So a group of Utd fans have gained access to the training ground this morning and confronted/had a chat with Ole and the players to voice their anger at the Super League

Couple of things
1) It wasn't Ole and the players who came up with the plan. Direct your anger at the correct people
and
2) This - Simply put, no you don't. If we had that power, I would be binning 8.15pm kick offs for starters.

I also see Florentino Perez is still losing his shit. Super League will happen & Chelsea fans protesting were a plant and not real Chelsea fans apparently

and....it seems the Premier League with Rangers and Celtic is back on the agenda (with Government backing). Idea would reduce the Prem to 18 teams.
