The Football News Thread 2017/18 - everything not Wolves

There's also talk that the fake Doctor sold off all his shares in Recon on the quiet a few months ago. So he's now just a wealthy individual (probably) rather than acting on behalf of a company. In that situation then you have two hopes of getting your money out of China, slim and none.

Makes you wonder if anyone from the previous owners cut ally did any checking on him,or whether they just took the money and ran. We all moaned about moxey and Morgan but at the minute it looks as though they did the homework to get proper buyers and not a chancer

Looking at what Villa fans are saying I still find it bizarre that so many are urging people to keep faith in 'Dr. Tony' and that these problems are obviously nothing to do with him and that he will get them the money as soon as he can. He was exposed as a fraud almost the moment he bought the club. Says a lot about the 'fit and proper' tests again, doesn't it?
When you see all this it is hard to put into words just how grateful I am we got Fosun as our owners.

We all knew they were in big trouble if they didn't go up, but this is worse than any of us imagined.

We cannot, should not, wish this on any club - especially not one that most of us work with and live with people who support them. Yes, there are prats amongst their fans, but there are idiots amongst our fanbase. We've been through the Bhattis, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone, not even Birmingham City. Personally, I hope they get rid of the likes of Xia and Bruce ASAP and get back onto a relatively even keel.

Remember, we're not back to where we were in 1980 before the Bhattis - nearly 40 years later. This could do similar to Villa.

What exactly are people wishing on them?

Personally i would be pretty happy if they spent a couple of years in league 1 or even 2. Not sure what is wrong with that really?

As said, they won't go bump, big football clubs just don't.

I would have been happy with them just being stuck in the Championship for a good few years to learn some humility (and thought that would be the case after losing to Fulham). But now I think a season or two in League One could do them some good. Don't want them to stop existing at all, would be disappointed if they do.

And they won't, even if things get critical and they go bankrupt they won't disappear.

Pretty much same sentiment as everyone else don’t want to see them go out but a prolonged period in the championship may do the fans some good and start to lose their self entitlement and sheer attitude of we’re Aston Villa and we’re bigger than you attitude that they have.
Not saying all Wolves fans have behaved with humility this season because a proportion haven’t but it’s nothing compared to the sniping we’ve received from them.

Personally (and I've just tweeted this) there is a limit to my schadenfreude. Yes, I was pleased they lost the PO final, and I didn't want them to go up. But I don't like seeing them unravel like this either.

Talking to DW about this yesterday and he's absolutely right that the warning signs were right there (though I didn't realise that the situation is worse than first feared), clear as day but so many fans were just swept along with hyperbole that would make Glasgowolf take a step back.

Desperate times by the sounds of it.

Exactly this.

Dear me totally forgetting Terry and Snodgrass aren’t their own to sell.

I’d be surprised if Bruce is still there come August but that’ll be his choice. Villa fans rave about their youth system it’ll need putting to the test big time now.
