The Football News Thread 2017/18 - everything not Wolves

Last season, Davis played 28 league games, quite a few of them off the bench. Scored two goals. By a distance he was the youth product to make the most impact.

Green, Hepburn-Murphy and O'Hare played 12 league games between them (again, not all starts by any means).

Not a single one of their other products - we can't count Grealish now, he's 23 - played any minutes at all for them in the league. A couple got sent out on loan and didn't do anything.

There might be talent there but they are no way ready to be thrown in en masse, it'd be carnage. They're also not even at the top U23 level, they're in the same league as we are.

They sound like they are about 11. And on the bottom table.

There's also talk that the fake Doctor sold off all his shares in Recon on the quiet a few months ago. So he's now just a wealthy individual (probably) rather than acting on behalf of a company. In that situation then you have two hopes of getting your money out of China, slim and none.
Is this basically the main reason they haven't been able to cover their outgoings this month?

It's a potential excuse for the weirdo for sure. Although it's equally possible that his plan failed and now he's just cutting and running, and/or he doesn't actually have any money.

His background was always, always, always extremely iffy.

Villa tend to have a decent youth side and have produced a few players who have competent careers at Championship level fairly recently the likes of Callum Robinson and Daniel Johnson, but competent is all they are. O'Hare is highly rated, but not sure there's a lot else there really.

Don’t really understand this. Isn’t it Recon that owns Villa, so whoever he sold them to now owns Villa?

It's incredibly murky. There are numerous companies called variants of "Recon" that are in some way connected to Villa. Ultimately he is still the owner, although there have always been questions as to whether he is genuinely the man with the money (remember that Carson Yeung was absolutely, definitively, 100% not the man who was funding Birmingham for a while - it was someone else who would never have got clearance).

From the FT comments section.

The comment at the end reminds me of the Blackadder University line about the great Universities, Oxford, Cambridge...Hull. Big clubs to have hit trouble, Leeds, Villa... Coventry

That is actually a huge problem if he continues to claim de facto control and really wants to hold out for this £100m he thinks he will get (hahahahahahahahahaha) and won't sell at a lower fee.

Who the fuck is handing over £100m for a company in distress with debts that you can probably buy for £1 plus agreeing to take the debt on in about a month, and where the person you are paying has murky connections (at best) to actually owning the controlling interest in the asset you want to buy?

The whole thing is a dog's breakfast. If half of the financials being leaked are true this is Portsmouth max. All we need is that fucking abominable adminstrator (who wasn't bent at all, nay, nay, that could be libellous) Pompey used pitching up.

Andrew Andronikou falls into the same bracket as Dean Saunders, if he wants to take me to court for something I say about him, be my guest :icon_lol:

Reading and listening to different reports, are Aston Villa in a financial mess or owned by mega rich owners?

Not sure which reports you’ve been reading, but the answer in all of them will be the financial mess one.

In a footballing context, even if you were to believe the most charitable of reports, Tony Xia is not mega rich.

From a spending/rebuilding point of view: over the next year or possibly two, it doesn't matter if Bill Gates owns them. They can't spend much if anything, regardless of how much is sat in their bank account, because they've pushed themselves right to the limit on the Football League's regulations. And they've already lost half their first XI, with at least a couple more to follow. So they're in trouble on a footballing level.

From a cashflow and projection point of view: if you believe some reports, then the alleged Doctor would love to pay this tax bill, he has millions of pounds sat there, but he just can't move it. But then I don't believe it when people say cheques get lost in the post. If you're a bit cynical towards a man with very little credibility and no serious profile who behaves incredibly strangely on social media, then you might think either he doesn't have the money or he doesn't want to give them any more. Either answer ends the same way.

If the Recon group own Villa (and I have no idea if they do) then there is plenty of financial clout there.

They don't. Tony Xia owns Villa, he also used to own a substantial stake in the Recon Group but that is no longer the case it seems.

Thank you, I must have got a bit confused. I thought Recon were pulling the strings, with Xia being the puppet.
