The Football News Thread 2017/18 - everything not Wolves

Thank you, I must have got a bit confused. I thought Recon were pulling the strings, with Xia being the puppet.

Entirely possible that he's a puppet. But if he is, it's because someone who is actually providing the money wouldn't be allowed to own an English football club, because well...I'm sure you can guess. He's not the frontman for a conglomerate, not by any means. As far as the paperwork is concerned, he owns the club as an individual.

As he now has no stake in Recon (apparently) then there is no realistic way he can divert funds from there in the name of overseas investment.

Recon is also not a very successful company in any case. They seem to buy and sell a lot of other small companies. They don't actually do a great deal on the face of it, and they don't make a lot of money. They do sometimes make big noises about acquiring businesses further up the scale, but then nothing happens.

This was all publicised two years ago, but people weren't very interested.

The recon website is all very vague as well, doesn't seem to be any proper info about anything

Shows how stunningly lucky we are to have ended up with Fosun.

I wouldn't trust the bloke who owns the Albion any more than Dr Dodgy, and as for Birmingham City...

It's incredibly shoddy, the kind of thing any halfway decent web designer could do for you in an afternoon.

They still have this as one of their main news stories (complete with pointless stock image of "man on phone" :icon_lol:)

Only that deal never happened. All bullshit. They tried changing the terms at the end and nothing went through.

And when you try clicking through to the article in full:

Whoops. Now that sure is a good look for a multi-national, billion dollar company.

To be fair that's not unusual for large companies, particularly those that specialise in holding others.

So Villa have come to a deal for this tax bill to be paid in instalments.

Okaaaaaay

What about this month's wage bill?

Sticking plaster on a broken leg.

Unsure about the loanees but they will definitely be on the hook for one more month of Terry, Gabby and Hutton. Contracts end on 30 June.

Which bit, the 2006 stock images or the broken links, or the "news" that isn't news :)

I think the point you made in social media was a very good one DW. Fans need to trust less and challenge more when things don't look right, and should be relying on evidence rather than vacuous platitudes.

There's more power in the hands of the fans now. Everyone has an outlet (if they want one) and everyone has more access to information than ever before (if they want to find it).

You can't just sit back and think "ah well, they're bound to have a plan". Because guess what, most of the time they don't.

Totally agreed, sometimes fans just hear what they want or hope to be true.

The problem is the mob mentality of fans

I'm moving towards Langers' view now. Delighted they stayed down, happy to see them fighting FFP, seeing them seemingly absolutely fucked, less so. There is a lot of 'there but for the grace of god' about this. We could easily have been sold to a similar owner.

I think one of the issues is that Villa fans have no fundamental understanding of the Championship (why would they, it's been nearly 30 years since they were last at that level). If Wolves had been taken over by someone like this and we'd embarked on a spending spree which hoovered up players of the same profile as Villa have, then there would have been a hell of a lot more questions asked - we've been there and done that, more than once. Whereas their fans just think "meh, that's probably what you need, crack on and we'll sort the rest out once we're back in the PL".

So like Stan you blame the fans....

Andrew Andronikou falls into the same bracket as Dean Saunders, if he wants to take me to court for something I say about him, be my guest :icon_lol:
He works in my industry and is not liked. One of life's bad guys, make no mistake.

I just remember DW almost exploding about the bloke during the whole Portsmouth collapse. It was so obvious that Andronikou was basically the last bloke you wanted involved at that time and in that place.

We will be the top club in the West Midlands next season for the first time in 39 years. As for Villa, their fans have lacked humility, class and self awareness throughout my life, $#@! them and $#@! their need to rebuild.

Hi! Villa fan here.

I can't speak for Villa fans in the Midlands, as I've never had to live with them. Most of my experience comes from VillaTalk and, just based on them, there's definitely quite a few who lack all of those in spades, though there's no lack of people catastrophizing when we lose or draw and then doing about-turns when we win (and this was true even when we weren't in this dire situation). It's not the worst football forum for discussion by a long shot, but by god they're a bunch of boring, entitled $&%*s when they want to be. The European Cup was over 30 years ago, lads! We've been an unexceptional team for a long time, and the board and management deserve everything that's about to come at them. These recent events have really brought out the "didn't we tell you so?" hindsighters too, which is usually the point when I take a break from the forum. I can't stand people like that, especially when I suspect some of them were among those who saw Xia as our golden goose when he took over.

On the brighter side of things, I'm really looking forward to see how Wolves will do in the PL. I hope you throw the cat among the pigeons, in a good way, and I hope you give the top six a good run for their money. Growing up in West Yorkshire, I also have the benefit of a second team to follow (Huddersfield Town). The last time I went to see them, during their last season in the Championship, the style of football I saw under Wagner was completely unrecognizable from the hoofball tactics I grew up watching. As soon as Town had stopped all that, they transformed into a very decent outfit, and you can see how well it paid off. When has hoofball ever worked? Villa always looked at their most dangerous when they passed the ball on the ground, but there you go. Some managers must get some kind of kick out of it, I suppose. Was it like this for you before Santo became your manager?
