The Football News Thread 2017/18 - everything not Wolves

The full terms of Kevin De Bruyne’s new contract.

- Paid in euros due to Brexit
- €10m signing-on fee
- €230k per week basic
- €300k per week after extras
- plus other bonuses (win CL/PL/Balon d’Or)
- will be finalised early January

One of the best players in the world hands down. Love the guy. And he looks like me :icon_lol:

I really think there is a good argument to use analytics but much like American football analytics they are useless in football right now. Nobody has a model that works and it is Americans that are trying to quantify something that is so fluid it is like mapping chaos.

All I've seen so far is a bastardised version of Bill James baseball theories and that is like using an abacus to do quantum physics.

I don't think that is too bad at all. Especially as £9m of the loss only occurred as bonuses and other costs once promotion was secured.

Appears that the Villa bench has some kind of weird ageing effect. Agbonlahor looks like he's in his mid 50s.

Not sure that I looked that bad in my mid fifties (or even now when I'm 67)

(if you don't blow your own trumpet then no one else will )

It looks as if the photo has gone through one of the aging apps.

I see Bruce made mention of the fans having a moan after their win yesterday, as predicted.

"we played badly against Brentford second half and all of a sudden we're in crisis.

"We have to eradicate that as a club. We can't be just going along quite nicely and then we're in crisis."

Perhaps they were rightfully complaining that it was your first win in 6 games Steve? Hardly all of a sudden.

Shotton played right back yesterday, a position he hasn't played regularly since his Stoke career under Pulis, why? Because he has a long flat throw. Looks like he's going to try and replicate the Delap formula he got Stoke up with despite inheriting a side that are 7th in the league and have the most expensive squad in the league.

Just to expand on this from a Villa perspective.

Just look at the state of those comments from Bruce.

That's a good piece.

I've never been able to stand Bruce (I know, I hide it well) and this is the kind of shit that had me fervently against his appointment in 2012. He plays rubbish football at high expense but above all else he's a tosser.

You really don't you know
