The Football News Thread 2017/18 - everything not Wolves

Not really as now your players will still be unsettled for the whole of August and you can't buy replacements for them at all. Seems a daft move to me and the window should've been closed to sales as well as buying.

So they will be unsettled for the whole of August like they are already. So no change then....

As I said, they know when the window ends, if they don't have it sorted by then they are going nowhere.

Obviously closing it to sales would be ideal but doubt that's possible

A stupid move which cuts their nose off to spite their face.

The big difference being clubs can replace like for like up till the window ends. Now they can't. Stupid move by the Prem clubs to do one without the other.

20k people with <3k tickets. It is their first time in Europe for ~25 years(?) so they've got a little carried away...

21:05 kick off time now absolute maddness at the moment

Does she mean she hasn't been around though when the "jokes" have been said rather than not had jokes aimed at her. For what it's worth i think he has said those things and i'm not sure why he hasn't been suspended or the matter looked in to properly which it clearly hasn't been.

While we're on racial stereotypes or stereotyping in general, Man Utd's new Lukaku song has been getting a bit of attention because it says he has a 24 inch penis. Kick it out have asked them to stop singing it but is it a case of people looking for racism or should it be banned because it's racist?

Possibly, but so far they have wheeled out two players to back him up and it's been pretty embarrassing. As you said, it clearly wasn't investigated properly. I fear what will happen now is they will backtrack and Sampson simply sacked rather than questions being asked why they attempted to cover it up in the first place too.

In my opinion, whilst there are worse cases of racism (mainly structural which isn't addressed well enough) about the chant is racial stereotyping and that isn't acceptable.

This article reflects my opinion pretty well.

It's certainly a different interpretation of Made of Stone. It is racist because as you say it plays on racial stereotypes and having a 24" penis comes with its negatives I can tell you.

See i read this article and i have a few problems with it. I get that the line in the song about Lukaku's 24" penis is probably linked to racial stereotyping but to say that those fans then probably have negative racial stereo types is a bold statement to make. Now some of them probably do but we're assuming quite a lot here. On top of that i do think we live in a world now where far too many people get offended by things and particularly offended by something for other people where there really isn't anything to get offended by.

I would be interested to see what Lukaku's thoughts on the song are, personally i don't think he's got anything to be offended by. Now i would agree with anyone that said making a negative judgement about some based on anything like race, gender, nationality etc is wrong and shouldn't be done but i think taking offence at a song about someone having a massive penis is taking it a bit too far.

Furthermore where were the headlines and the articles about the Utd song about Vidic murdering people or Park eating dogs or did that not warrant it? Again i don't think there is much of a problem until people start looking for them.

Then i see on twitter Bobby Zamora has commented on a picture of Moose with Rio saying "that reminds me must get milk" because of how white he is. Now white people haven't been subjected to years of racism and being treated like second class citizens or even worse but is there a difference between this comment and others. I have no idea whether this will be picked up on but it does strike me being strange that certain stereotypes/comments are definitely offensive but others aren't yet there really isn't any difference in the comments. Put it this way as stupid as it is but if a white ex player had commented about Rio reminding him of something brown e.g chocolate there would have been immediate outrage. Personally again i don't think there is anything to be offended by but surely there has to be equality in everything.

Not sure whether what i have said has come across in the way i want but in short, stereotyping is never a great thing but when it's positive and definitely meant in a joking way whatever the situation surely we're mature enough to see it as it is rather than take offence by everything that may upset the odd person. I feel that when warranted then action is required such as Mark Sampson who while he was making a joke it wasn't meant in a good way and was definitely intended to offend and he knew it would.

The point Hyde makes about negative stereotyping comes from academic research I believe mate. And I agree with it. It doesn't just stop at people joking about black men having enormous penises does it? We've already seen pundits go on about Lukaku and Pogba's power/physique without acknowledging their other, more prevalent (IMO) talents. I think it all ties in. Though I understand others don't agree often with me on this matter.

I know some see it as 'banter' (which I find a fine line anyway) and there is always the political correctness debate but for me I don't really see how it's 'funny'. Seems a pretty low bar is that is a funny chant to me. I have generally looked at those type of chants as pretty classless.

Kick It Out also raised concerns to Chelsea regarding their Morata chant which is anti-semitic. So they aren't just picking and choosing when to decide something is offensive. Morata himself does not want to be associated with it.
