It's a simple but poignant sign of respect so I don't get it either. In the case of players like James McClean who refuse to wear one, I suppose we also have to respect his views even if we disagree with it.

I do think it's an important event to commemorate but at the same time I find it's a bit overblown on social media. Almost mawkish.

Agree with this. I'm all for remembering those who died protecting freedom. But this latest facebook bandwagon is just that imo. It isn't a traditional thing that football teams all wore poppies on their kits, it's a recent invention. Wonder if the cricket team will all be wearing them too?
 
He certainly has a point. As soon as Theresa May stood up to talk about the issue it became political.

However, the problem FIFA have is that they allowed Ireland to wear shirts with a hologram commemorating the centenary of the 1916 uprising. That is far more overtly political as far as I can see.
 
Yaya (or rather his agent) has issued a full apology to Guardiola and Man City.

Sky now reporting that Rangers and Barton have reached agreement over the termination of his contract.

Wigan are erecting a statue of Dave Whelan for his 80th birthday.

Unconfirmed if the statues leg will be in a splint or not.

Sean Dyche spoke very well about Barton the other week. He said he had not had any problems with him at Burnley, and that Barton played a big part in their promotion.
 
News that Swindon may be bought by Red Bull. However any name change needs FA approval.
