I'd wager that rather than cancelling his contract (which they probably can't afford to do in one hit) or trying to sack him for gross misconduct which would be a ballache to prove, they're trying to string the whole affair out so they can get near to January and someone in England will take him on for 18 months. You'd think it wouldn't be worth the hassle, but someone will always take the risk. He was decent for Burnley last season after all.

Story I heard is that after they got gubbed by Celtic, Barton went off on one saying this squad had only been beating shit teams in a shit league before he turned up so they needed to cop on a bit. In terms of his performance levels, apparently he as been utter shite and after the Celtic game my Uncle basically ranted along the same lines I did with regards to Rohan Ricketts once. Doing stuff with Talksport over the weekend just added to it all.
