Makes sense, to be fair. I forget just how far removed geographically the UK is from South America.

So.... something other than Gerrard going missing for 90 mins at Anfield today has happened this week?

Crazy scenes though - Boca should be kicked out of the competition and refused entry for next season (and maybe play games behind closed doors?)

Closer to home: Another failed drugs test, this time Sheff Utd's Jose Baxter (they haven't said what he tested positive for though).

Usually I'm not for punishing the club as an entity but it really must be done in this case. Failures from the top down, and the players applauding the fans as they threw rocks at River is just unbelievable.

Jose Baxter of Sheff Utd fails a drug test

The Club has learned that one of its players, Jose Baxter, was found to have traces of a banned substance in his sample following a routine Football Association out of competition drug test. The player has informed the Club that he engaged in no wrongdoing involving any banned substance.

Established policy in these circumstances requires that the Club temporarily suspend the player pending further findings. The Club has taken this step without prejudice to the player's claim of no wrongdoing. The Club will offer no further comment at this stage.

yeah - I normaly wouldn't advocate such a harsh ban but it needs to be made clear that it is unacceptable behaviour and I don't think simple expulsion from this years competition and/or a potential fine will work

Some final day finish in 2.Bundesliga at both ends of the table:

1. Ingolstadt 63 +21 (C)
2. Darmstadt 56 +17
----------------------------
3. Karlsruhe 55 +18
----------------------------
4. Kaiserslautern 55 +14

12. Sandhausen 38 -5
13. Greuther Fürth 37 -6
14. St Pauli 37 -10
15. 1860 München 36 -8
---------------------------------
16. FSV Frankfurt 36 -13
--------------------------------
17. Erzgebirge Aue 35 -15
18. Aalen 31 -11 (R)

St Pauli survived then. Good news - I recall that a few weeks ago you thought they were dead and buried.

Some big teams down there at the foot of the table.

One game left mate, not safe yet. In good form now including a 5-1 win today vs Bochum (the massive upturn over the last month has rescued what looked like a desperate situation) but Darmstadt away on the final day is a very tough game. Of course it might end up that 37 is enough.

Ah - I thought today had been the final Sunday, but only one team confirmed as relegated should have told me it wasn't over yet.

BTW - hell of a season for Ingolstadt.

Ingolstadt used to have a few Americans about the squad. Looks like only Alfredo Morales still filling that quota.

BTW, Dan, do you support any German club in particular?

I can't quite make out how British that answer is...

St Pauli aren't rubbish. They are an institution. And ridiculously cool in so many ways.

Yeah, but on the pitch...I've been following them for 14 years now. Four of those seasons were spent in the third tier back when it was regionalised and part comprised of other club's reserve teams, which is a mark of how tinpot it was. Of the other 10, three have ended in relegation, this year has been another relegation fight and 2012/13 was a much closer scrape than 10th place would indicate. It isn't dull I suppose!

Julio Sergio stirring the Pep Pot by saying he (Pep) would accept the Brazil national job "without thinking".
