The Blame Game

Tbf Bazza's fk against Bristol last season was pretty undefendable. Today's wasn't.

Bazza’s free kick was direct. No indirect free kick is impossible to defend. Today’s was an excellent free kick, and well headed home. We defended it poorly though.

Think he meant the one Benno scored from (helped by the Bristol defender ducking in front of him). Today was exactly as you put. Great delivery, poorly defended.

I did, completely forgot he's scored the equaliser.

Strange.

That free kick the Bristol player had a pretty much unimpeded attempt to head it away, just decided to duck and hope it was going out. Whereas today Donk was desperately trying to get back and at that point Morgan was always favourite.

Mark pretty much summed it up, it’s a good ball and Donk was always struggling from the start because of the quality of the ball.

Ah that one - great free kick and an amazing moment - but surely a defender in front of benno/attacking the ball from the post could have defended it? No indirect free kick is indefensible.

It was similar to today in that the defenders were back peddling which makes it difficult to jump for.

Thought we had an oddly high line for the third today and all players were on front foot. Looked like Coady was readying a step up shout to get them all offside but never did it.

So that means you think every goal from an indirect freekick is the result of a mistake? Nothing an attacker does can overcome the defending if it's done properly?

Somewhat cynical but Ruben Neves could have stopped the first goal by 'taking one for the team' and clipping Gray as he ran through.

Having watched their third a few time it looks like a foul on Donk. No way is he going to be able to get up with that lumps hands all over his shoulders.

|Surely time now for Patricio to start doing extra training on kicking. its not just an occasional problem, its every game. i wish too he was more in charge of the area as lots of balls come in and defenders are waiting for him to come and collect, and in the end they have to hoof it clear.

Looks to me that Donk got under the flight of the ball. It's going over him and he's not going to effectively challenge Morgan who's got the jump on him.

basically the same as Bennett got over Maguire

He had an issue with 1 kick yesterday. Unless you think when a ball is played back to him he should be pinging it directly to a Wolves player as if he is Neves? When a back pass is played under pressure it is so the keeper can just bollock it away. He got 1 wrong in the 1st half as he tried to make a pass to Bennett. The rest of his kicks actually went where you would expect. Just because a Leicester player would then win a header (rarely happened) that is not his fault. His goalkicks were spot on as well when he aimed for Dendoncker. If it missed Donck it got to Raul. Then Doc came on and we reverted to the crap tactic of aiming for him and 2 went out of play but that is the tactic being shit rather than the kicking. Thankfully after the 2nd we went back to aiming at Donck at that was that. The only other kick that went out of play was a backpass under extreme pressure from Benno just 8 yards out and he no choice but to do that as a straight kick is hitting a player and risking a goal. Go back to the Liverpool game and Ruddy ws doing the aim for the full back kicking and most went out of play.

Rui has any issue with kicking, it has improved through the season but to pick him up on it yesterday is a bit odd for me. If we weren't all looking at his kicking it would be put down as "1 crap moment from his kicking" rather than "every kick he does is SHIT"

Not counting the miscontrol as that wasn't a kicking issue, he lost control of a shit pass but recovered brilliantly.

Just watched the 30 min highlights on Sky. The first picture is where Patricio is stood as the free kick is just about to be taken, the second as Morgan heads the ball. At the game I thought he should have done better and still do.

Fairly simple one today, Boly is way too tight to Tosun and allows him to half turn, play the ball into Gomes and take him totally out of the game. Neves couldn't stop him from there and it's a piledriver of a shot that Rui had no chance with.

Pretty much the only thing Willy got wrong all day and he had a couple of trademark heroic blocks near the end, so I'll forgive him.
