The Blame Game

It was a lovely blindside run and cool finish as well. Annoying, but them's the breaks against the best teams.

First goal g Liverpool I struggle to apportion blame. Second goal Ryan Bennett ball watching

First goal is clearly Neves’ fault. Doesn’t track Fabinho at all.

I’d stick some of the blame for the second on Patricio for not coming to claim the big looping cross. Whoever completely cocked the clearance up (Jonny?) can have a chunk of blame too.

It was Saiss who spannered the clearance for the second.

Neves and Coady for the first, Bennett for the second. All for letting their man go.

Didn't think Bennett really let his man go, don't recall that he was actually marking van Dijk, he just thought he could let the ball run through because he wasn't aware of what was around him.

The defending on both goals was really complacent from what should've been fairly routine bits of defending.

Listening to Nuno this is what he thought too really.

Not the first time this season that we've conceded from the phase after a set piece being cleared as well. Definitely something we need to sort out.

We definitely struggle clearing out of the box away from the opposition. Seems like we clear directly to an attacker half the time.

Because we don't leave anyone outside of the area. I never understand why we don't have a couple of players outside the box. One for the half clearance and the other near the halfway line to keep the defenders honest

I think it's pretty much accepted now that you're statistically far less likely to concede from set pieces the more bodies you have in the area.

Yeah, he showed it to all of us in the pub last night but it was hard copy. He gave all the evidence to me and I'll scan it and send it across sometime late next week.

Hey Lycan, I hope I didn't bruise your bum cheeks with my vice-like grip last night.

One fast player up near the halfway line takes two defenders away, one player on the edge of the box (stops all that free space that Salah had for the away swinging corner) covers for a poor clearance which will probably drop a further two attackers out of the box. Add the keeper and the corner taker and that only leaves them 5 players they can have in the area while we have 9 including the keeper! We really need to bring the other two back?
It's the second ball that we've had trouble with and less attackers plus cover on the edge of the area would help with that

Watch any team attacking a corner, they're going to have 2 men back anyway so you're not really taking anyone away anyway.

The issue is just switching off after the initial clearance.

Not including cup games in the table but for the sake of argument...it's an odd one tonight.

Bennett probably shouldn't let Milner nip in front of him and hold it up, Boly shows Origi the wrong way (both inside and onto his stronger foot) and isn't tight enough, and it goes through Dendoncker's legs when he is also probably standing off too far. No chance for the goalkeeper.

One of those where several small errors add up rather than an outright clanger from anyone. You'd probably say the majority of the blame is with Boly, but he was otherwise immense.

Coady ball was poor as was Jonny's control,Boly showed Origi inside. Through the legs of Dendonker and no chance for JR.

I would suggest Boly showed him that side as it was congested and making him come back where Donck was meant he thought any shot would be blocked. I think down Boly's left Sturridge was free....so thinking about it, yeah poor error should have left him with the option to pass to Sturridge because he was an embarrassment to the Liverpool shirt last night and would have done nothing with any chance

Unless Jonny is secretly Inspector Gadget he had zero chance of controlling that pass. It was high and and too far in front of him. He probably should have let it go out for a throw in but if you think he should get any control on that pass then your expectations are a tad out
