The Blame Game

Jonny - far too easily beaten by Mooy.

Coady - positionally? Not sure what he was doing in the goal?

I think Coady gets done by Boly's flick doesn't he?

It’s Neves fault. He gave the Ball away for the 50th time under no pressure taking a ridiculously heavy touch. Then from there we are struggling

Neves , held on to the ball for too long. Followed by a crap dive after he'd lost it

You could probably point the finger at Neves, Jonny, Boly, Bennett, Coady or Doherty for this one. It's just a clusterfuck all round.

I'd say Jonny most of all although he's put in a really tough situation and he's clearly knackered up against a fresh substitute.

I think had Doc got beaten as easily as Jonny did by Mooy there would have been a fair bit of shit thrown his way.

Absolutely ridiculous blaming jonny- he was absolutely destroyed physically at this point, you could see on his face he was giving everything he had left but couldnt catch up mooy, who was fresh. Neves for losing the ball so easily, bennet for terrible marking and being beaten so easily, and patricio for not catching the ball

Don’t really see how you can blame Coady, Bennett, Doc or Rui In this situation. I literally don’t know what they could do differently.

It’s 95% Neves, 2.5% Jonny (although he was fucked, and where the cross cake In from wasn’t particularly a dangerous area or good) 2.5% Boly, his flick cause the chaos and he should Have been better positioned

The ball was going straight to Coady. Boly did misjudge the situation a little, he could have left it, but anyones instimct would be to try to clear rather than risk it. Ball was too high for a header for him, so he tried to flick it. Not his fault, Boly had a solid game won everything in the air, several hard tackles at the perfect time to stop an attack. Our best defender by far

Jonny played really well yesterday, by far our best performer, even with this mistake, but it is a mistake. He's beaten all ends up. I get that he's absolutely knackered after the shift he's put in but it's still not good enough.

That's coming from Jonny's No.1 fan over here as well.

Destroyed or not, he was far too easily beaten, the error doesn't get waved away just because he was tired.
Short of fouling mooy, who sprinted past him and wasnt that close for a clean attempt at a tackle, not sure what you expect him to do? He only made about 3-4 steps after crossing it, nowhere near enough time for him to catch up

Yeah foul him, block the cross, don't get beaten for pace by someone who isn't particularly fast any of those options would have meant we probably don't lost the game.

Excusing shit defending due to tiredness is bollocks, especially at this level.

You cant foul every time a player geta past you, also I would argue giving a free kick just outside the box is a lot more dangerous than what happened.
You're also mistaking a change of direction, quick burst of speed and accelerating away (like mooy did) with pace- mooy had 3-4 steps max before crossing, nowhere near enough time for johnny to catch up. Mooy is fresh, johnny is dog tired, short of teleporting I dont see any way of johnny catching up once the initial burst run was made

Who said anything about fouling everytime you are in this situation? I'm saying that in this instance that is one of the options he had to prevent the cross coming in.

Your argument that a free kick would be more dangerous is flawed, as Hudds scored in the actual instance, you can't get anymore dangerous than that!

If Jonny is beaten by 3 or 4 steps, then clearly his initial positioning is wrong? No?

Ultimately Jonny got beaten far too easily, if he is tired, so what? That is no excuse, if you are short on energy, position yourself so you aren't likely to get beaten, and/or foul him.

"Neves for losing the ball so easily, bennet for terrible marking and being beaten so easily, and patricio for not catching the bal"

They were probably tired too, lets absolve them....

I don't think Rui is really to blame for any of it. He actually makes a good save from the first shot.

Im not gonna argue, go to youtube and watch it again. The way I see it- Mooy isnt that close to johnny where johnny can attempt a regular tackle. Mooy fakes one way, goes the other and accelerates. Johnny is literally a step behind him, you cant expect him at top speed in a second from a stand still after 90 mins. Mooy takes three steps, literally falls over to deliver the cross from the furthest most point so johnny (whos a step behind) cant get a leg in. Mooy is not an excellent player but hes crafty. Theres nothing wrong with johnny positioning, hes not going to lunge and hack him when a free kick would have been more dangerous that the cross that ended up being delivered.

Love the "i'm not going to argue" and then you do ;)

They scored from the cross! How can you argue that a free kick would have been more dangerous, it's laughable??
