The Blame Game

This is becoming a bit tedious - ultimately it's rarely one single players fault, but an accumulation of small errors by a number that cause the problem.

As shown by the results:

Everton 1st: Doherty (stupid FK to give away)/Boly (rubbish header)

Everton 2nd: Neves/Doherty/Bennett/Coady (in that order, such a bad goal)

Leicester 1st: Jota (giving it away cheaply)/Jonny (don't stand five yards off Albrighton)/Doherty (fucking moron)

Leicester 2nd: Jota (giving it away cheaply)/Coady (not out quick enough and turned his back on the shot)/Patricio (I think he probably should do better, others disagree)

Man City: Boly (not dealing with set piece into box)

Man Utd: No blame apportioned

Watford 1st: Patricio (Straight shot from 30 yards, no deflection, not in the corner)

Watford 2nd: Moutinho (Careless loss of possession from our own kick off)/Bennett (totally outdone by Pereyra's run)

Brighton: Doherty/Coady/Bennett (Combination of not picking up on a throw and not tracking Murray)/Traore (half asleep and allows Bruno to get ahead of him)

Tottenham 1st: Boly/Jonny (totally losing Lamela's run on a simple one two)/Patricio (right through his legs)

Tottenham 2nd: Jonny (not stopping the cross)/Bennett/Doherty (neither picking up Moura)/Patricio (not coming for a floated cross)

Tottenham 3rd: Boly (going for a header and vacating his area completely)/Bennett (no reaction to the rebound and Kane taps in)

One goal there down to one outfield player (and that was a set piece, from a free kick that should never have been given so can't blame whoever gave it away - Neves I think)

However criticise Mr Gloves at any point and apparently it's a witch hunt, how very dare you.

Really a byproduct of the fact that this is our first season back in the PL where most of our team haven't played here before - hopefully they learn how to deal with it. If they don't then they will get replaced.

Exactly. The Watford game being a prime example, where Doucoure was given the freedom of Molineux in the first half, with non of the front 'three' dropping back into midfield to assist Neves or Moutinho when Watford had got the ball (particularly Raul). Nuno very slow to react to that I thought.

How about Jonny's shite crossfield ball that lead to the free kick that Doc gave away for Everton's 1st? Or is that too far back in the build up? (Genuine question)

Probably, it was three months ago when I wrote that to be fair!

It was a shite ball but then there was no need to give away the free kick, we weren't exactly overrun and he didn't need to make the foul. Everything was contained. So there's point one and then we don't defend the set piece.

You can only go so far back. Otherwise you'd run everything all the way back to where you first lost the ball which is silly. When it's really cheap in a crap area (as per Jota twice at Leicester) then it goes on the list.

I think I've been very fair with it, there are players on there who I love, multiple times. I don't enjoy sticking anyone down, the best part of this thread was when I had nothing to write.

Doherty for a shit pass and no tracking on the first. Neves for not closing Mooy down.

Patricio for a school yard wall . Neves for just lamely standing there.

Two really poor goals to concede. Irritated. I thought we were past giving poor teams three points.

Boly for a terrible challenge to give the free kick away too.

Doc first I agree and Ruben partly as his positioning is poor, over compensates to help Joao.

Second Rui should do better all round, and Boly giving away such a stupid free kick.

Only a very minor point on the first goal, but Neves ended up tracking back too deep meaning the ball got through to Mooy. Neville mentioned it in comms too, though it's not really a full on blame. Doc is the only one that deserves that.

Neves has to take his share of the blame, he's in no man's land all the way through, leaves Mooy but gets nowhere near Mounie and then so easily bypassed by the cut back. It's way too easy for them to get in behind out wide but it's not like getting the ball out there is a certain goal, you have to be able to defend crosses too.

Neves on the second goal, surely. Makes himself smaller as the shot comes in.

Patricio got a big paw to that free kick. A big paw.
He simply should have kept it out at that point.

Disagree - thought the fuss about that was over the top at the time. He didn't even really turn much.

Agree. Plus the wall just shows too much of the goal (though I get that was partly the idea?)

That's twice he has been beaten low to the left when he should have done better. Leicester and Here

If you think the Leicester goal was on him, which is incredibly harsh and I think the majority disagree with you.

Today he wasn't really beaten either - it's just what he did when he got there was rubbish

I am not going to particularly complain though as he is quality. I do think we deliberately set the wall that way to offer a tempter that we thought was beyond Mooy's capabilities. To be fair to him, he bent the ball a long way to get it back inside the post, but at that point I am sure Rui is disappointed in himself.

Yeah there was a debate on that. Many on here including me have him as world class. World class keepers save that. That's why it's on him

Irrelevant what happens afterwards. He sets up a shit wall giving him a save to Make. Should Have hit someone’s ankles.

Agreed. It's a playground wall. Absolutely got the angles all wrong

I think it was deliberate in offering Mooy that post if he bent the ball miles. Because that amount of bend would mean the ball wouldn't travel that fast, and so Rui would get there. It worked perfectly, and Rui got there. Unfortunately, when he arrived he messed up the save.
