The Blame Game

It was a foul on Rui but it’s also pretty pathetic from him too

And I agree Mark the defending after Boly’s clearance was pathetic all round

He ran into the back of the defender and left himself in no mans land. Very poor.

No, he ran into Paterson who knew what he was doing (standing his ground to block Rui but not enough for a foul). Patricio has to do better than that. If he comes for the ball, he must get contact with it. As it was, he was in no-man's land and a goal was inevitable. That goal turned the game in Cardiff's favour. Although Hollett's second was a spectacular shot, it was not beyond Rui's ability to save it. I think he, along with most of the team, are showing awful signs of a lack of confidence, which doesn't augur well for the next few weeks.

Paterson moved towards him in order to impede him - it’s definitely a foul but Patricio gets caught in no mans land anyway.

I agree with you that Paterson moved towards Patricio with the intent of blocking him off but, with a referee like Marriner who was letting a lot of physical contact go, Paterson was sly enough to stop his movement before Patricio hit him and Patricio didn't have the sense to go down to bring the referee's attention to what Paterson had done. In football, you have to play to the interpretations of the referee on the day and Marriner was never going to give a foul for that level of contact. Patricio should really have ploughed through Paterson to get the ball or gone down, or best of all, made a better decision in the circumstances to stay on his line. For a goalkeeper of his pedigree, it really was a terrible error.

I agree with the above, Paterson is obviously trying to make life difficult but he doesn't really do a great deal other than wander into Patricio's path. If Patricio properly goes for it and there's significant contact he probably gets a foul but instead he feels the player there and just gives up, it was weak as piss.

I don't think you can have any complaints with the referee not giving anything there, Patricio just backed out of it and caused the problem for himself more than anything.

Think I have had enough of this tonight - we can argue all night as to what we did or didn't do.

That's me done for this evening!

Patricio's 'effort' for the first was pathetic, spineless, gutless shite. It made me really angry at the time and having just rewatched it still does. It's a routine up and under any professional keeper should be getting, let alone one at this level. Shitting yourself because the centre forward shoves his arse out is just cowardice. If Nuno genuinely picks on merit then Ruddy plays on Wednesday. I don't care about his reputation or how much he cost after the Huddersfield goal I'm just not having that.

I wouldn't blame him for the second, there was a save to be made, but it would have been a worldie, so it's a missed opportunity, rather than a mistake for me.

As for the 3 men on the line for the first. It looks bad, but I don't think any of them could have done anything else. Coady always goes there, it's his role so no blame there, Saiss' momentum takes him there after the ball deflects away from him after the header and Doherty is coming in from the right and couldn't have got there. No blame from me.

Patrício didn’t really do anything at all, that’s the problem - if he’d fallen over, he’d have gotten a free kick - I can guarantee you, any Cardiff player touched like that in the box would have been flat on their back in milliseconds. The alternative was to be stronger and just plough in and get the ball - he didn’t do either, which meant he did nothing. Not good. Having said that, he’s probably not been bumped like that without a free kick before, so he’s learning too.

Paterson was clever. He looked to see if Rui was coming and made it just look like the keeper had run into him. Never a foul and never going to be given. Rui had to stay at home or power himself towards the ball not give up and hope the ref is oneof those that hates keeper contact.

It is staggering how many players we currently have that are so badly out of form and Rui is one of them.

Keepers will occasionally make mistakes it's the nature of the beast, he hasn't turned to shit overnight. He's a class keeper who let a sloppy goal in because he got knocked and sort of stopped playing. It's annoying but hey ho. where were the defenders btw two players unmarked

he's not shit but he has been error prone in this 2nd half string of games, I don't think suggesting he's in poor form (same as everyone else) is an overly harsh criticism

He's now joint top with Doherty for mentions.

Now keeper errors are always likely to cost you (it takes some Coady heroics or some terrible finishing for it to come to nothing) but he's up there for a reason.

Thats fair I'm just trying to say I'm still glad we have him

I think it's a fair to start wondering whether he or Moutinho want to be here. I'm not at that point yet, but there is no denying that in the last 6 weeks their form has both hit the floor.

That's an odd thing to say.

Players form can go either way at times, it doesn't mean they necessarily don't want to be at a club!?

Sorry Connor the Chelsea goal is on you. Harsh but if you stick your head down you need to get more on it.

With the view from behind the goal thought Rui could have given Coady a shout to leave as he easily had it

No defender will ever let a shot go through if they think they can get something on it

Yeah, Coady the only man at fault this evening.

Bennett could have perhaps closed RLC down slightly quicker but that would be extremely harsh.
