I'm not hugely comfortable with how we've done business with this. I just hope Adobe was fully aware and happy with the situation.

I'm pretty sure that he has been party to it all. Wouldn't surprise me if his agent has set it all up and they both have benefited from two lots of signing on fees whilst we were in the loop with a guaranteed profit.

Just that Direwolf asked if anyone had been sold for profit as quickly before. Clive Allen was swapped for Kenny Sansom - Arsenal definitely got the better end of that deal, but I guess technically not profit. I'm not sure if Bolton squeezed anything out of City for Hamann. Have a feeling Unsworth may have gone to Villa for a very short period of time as well until his Mrs decided she didn't like Brum, unless that didn't go through?

If he signed for us and then Real Madrid came in for him and he moved to them before kicking a ball would that be okay?

Unsworth joined Villa from West Ham for a month before he moved back to Everton. Didn't play for Villa and may have moved before the season even began

I've not got an issue with it all really. Just feels a bit shady.

It's only shady if the player didn't know. As he will have done we have acted as a factor and also shafted Bournemouth nicely.

Maybe more cynical than shady then. It's certainly ugly.

In Jan 2014 Sunderland sold Ji Dong-won to Augsburg who immediately announced that he would be sold to Dortmund at the end of the season. Instance of a player moving quickly.

it’s just how you look at it. when we agreed a loan fee + wages for a player Bournemouth weren’t really playing it included a right to buy him for £10m. so we’d ‘paid’ for that right in the fee. a big part of the reason he’s worth more than £10m today in Stoke’s eyes is because he got to play part of last season for us and was seen to do a decent job. had he not seen him first hand Rowett might not even have been interested, never mind at £12m.

I quite fancy Afobe for top goalscorer in the Championship next season, he'll be good for Stoke (unfortunately)

I hope he and stoke do well - i'm happy they went down, but I know loads of stoke fans and they've never been the arrogant wankers that villa fans have been. Plus it woudl be funny if they went straight back up with villa and albion stuck in the shit.

A bit late to the party on this one.

I thought Afobe would have been a decent option from the bench next season, and was pleased we'd bought him. To sell him on less than a fortnight later seems very odd, but it makes sense from a business point of view. I thought he improved as time went on last season but it was never like he was a Boly/Neves/Jota type player who we simply couldn't replace.

I can totally understand where Machin is coming from - but I think my surprise at this is how different an approach it is, certainly for Wolves.

Am I disappointed? Not really because I do believe we can do better, and I'm happier with Jiminez than Afobe. But I am a bit surprised by it.

Anyway, cheers for the goals last season Benik - I wish him well at Stoke where I think he'll thrive.

Am I right in thinking that the profit we made on the Afobe deal helps towards our allowed budget for wages in terms of FFP?

As the Birmingham Mail is aids for the eyes can you tell me what that article is?

Haha

Just some quotes from Afobe that I hadn't seen elsewhere

“The manager is probably the main reason why I’m signing, to be honest. He’s very ambitious; he’s got a project going on here and I want to be a big part of it,” he told Stoke-on-TrentLive.

“What he told me made me feel very comfortable – I believe in what he is trying to achieve and I want to help us get back where we belong.

“The manager clearly believes in me and that’s something that every player wants. I’m hoping I can repay him by scoring some goals and helping the team win games.

“I want to score goals. I work hard and like to run in behind and link up with my teammates and bring other players into the game. I don’t want to big myself up too much – I just want to meet my teammates, get pre-season done and get started next season.

“I’ve played a few years in the Championship, even though I’m only 25, but I still feel as though I’ve got much more to offer.

“What Stoke are offering me and what I can hopefully offer the club is a great balance and I think we can do something great.”
