The Afobe question

I think this is a good move for Afobe. From what I saw of him at Bournemouth, I'm not at all sure he'd cut it in the Prem - the Championship is definitely his level, he'll always score goals in there.

Am I right in thinking that the profit we made on the Afobe deal helps towards our allowed budget for wages in terms of FFP?

Sky Sports reckon the fee for Afobe could rise to £15m, so that will probably involve a promotion payment as well as goals scored by him?
Either way a basic £2m goes against offsetting wages or signings for FFP.
Raul is coming in for about e3m loan fee so it pays for that

Haha

Just some quotes from Afobe that I hadn't seen elsewhere

“The manager is probably the main reason why I’m signing, to be honest. He’s very ambitious; he’s got a project going on here and I want to be a big part of it,” he told Stoke-on-TrentLive.

“What he told me made me feel very comfortable – I believe in what he is trying to achieve and I want to help us get back where we belong.

“The manager clearly believes in me and that’s something that every player wants. I’m hoping I can repay him by scoring some goals and helping the team win games.

“I want to score goals. I work hard and like to run in behind and link up with my teammates and bring other players into the game. I don’t want to big myself up too much – I just want to meet my teammates, get pre-season done and get started next season.

“I’ve played a few years in the Championship, even though I’m only 25, but I still feel as though I’ve got much more to offer.

“What Stoke are offering me and what I can hopefully offer the club is a great balance and I think we can do something great.”

Cheers YW. I think Afobe will do well there as will Rowett. Them and 'Boro will go up this year as I can't see any other clubs that aren't anything special in that division.

Agree, will be two pretty functional sides that go up I think. I think Moore will do alright at Albion but don’t think they will have the squad, maybe top six. Also may take time for Potter to get his ideas across at Swansea (if they give him the time that is).

I know by the time we played them we werent going at it full tilt but I thought Sheff Wed looked good in the 0-0. Some good passing and interplay but lacked anything up top, if they can get that sorted I fancy them to do something.

They improved towards the end of the season, have to see what business they do in the summer

Forest seem to be able to spend some money now so they are ones to keep an eye out for. Karanka could bore his way to promotion with the right squad.

There's always a team priced around 16/1 20/1 does well in the Champ. Can't see Mbro being in the top 2 if they lose Traore. And re Stan's point about Afove top scorer in the Champ, I'd say anything about 12/1 would be good value.

I dunno. I wouldn't have backed Aisnore to take us up last season with our squad.
