i'd imagine he was kept fully aware what was happening. i also reckon he'd have preferred it done this way than going back to being a Bournemouth player and had them haggling over a deal with someone that could've fallen though, leaving him somewhere he'd rather not be.

Don’t see the issue.

He was either going back to Bournemouth and then to Stoke. Instead he’s gone to Stoke via us. He would have been well aware of the scenario, as we wouldn’t have bought him if we weren’t sure we could sell him.

Whether we bought him or not he was still ending up at Stoke. It’s not like we’ve signed him, made him buy a house, out his kids in school and then told him to bugger off.

He would have been a backup here and maybe nipped in with a few goals but he’ll get a shed load for Stoke. Nice little profit for us and a couple of signing bonuses for him. Win win.

Stoke looking at buying Andre Gray as well. Going to be so painfull for Villa fans watching Albion & Stoke get promoted while they get relegated.

Benik had burned his bridges at Bournemouth. If we knew that Stoke were interested, and there was a possibility that Stoke and Bournemouth would have been out on valuation, which could lead to the deal falling through, then we have actually done Benik a good turn in getting him out of Bournemouth and on to a club that wants him. And we have taken a few million in commission for doing so.

It's a perfectly played hand for me.

Not sure about Albion, but I think Stoke fans are going to have a more enjoyable season than if they'd stayed up. I think Butland will stay if Liverpool don't come calling, Shawcross is hanging around, Benik will score 20 goals for them.

I said to you a couple of weeks ago that Stoke looked value at 11/4 for promotion, they're already now best priced at 5/2.

I would be very dubious at this stage about Albion.

Presumably we will get some significant extra bunce as a promotion bonus as well. Stoke and Albion are going to be the class of that division I reckon. God knows what will happen at Swansea with Potter, which could be interesting, and Derby and Lampard could be either spectacular, or a complete disaster. Plus Boro HAVE to go up or they are in the Villa position next close season. Villa are going to be blown away.

Can see why Rowett legged it over to Stoke. First time with a proper decent budget.

Pressure on him to take them straight up though

It's just the whole treating a player as a commodity (yes I know that essentially that's what they are) and flipping then for a quick profit. Just doesn't sit that well. It's a bit souless. Not a huge issue and will be water under the bridge in next to no time I guess.

We haven't though - we have probably done him a favour, and got paid for it.

Thanks Benik but Wolves are a different animal to when you were last here.

I think if the player isn't aware of it then that's a fair shout, but last week we signed him without any ceremony, today they have and there's a shirt photo. He knew about this and agreed, his first preference would probably been to play for us in the PL, but he clearly chose this option over staying at Bournemouth

Safe to say Afobe knew.

He made no comment on his transfer to Wolves but has already updated his Instagram page to his Stoke shirt and talking about a new chapter at a 'massive' club.

He only follows Stoke City on Instagram. Up until today did he only follow us!

Has there ever been a case before of a club buying a player and selling him on for a profit within the same transfer window?

Sky gave a list of about 5 earlier that had spent less time than Afobe. Hamann was one Liverpool-Bolton-ManCity. Not sure if those were profit driven though
