The Afobe question

Bring him back permanently?

6-month loan then obligation to buy, is that because he can't play for more than two teams in a calendar year then?

I think we have flipped him for a quick profit and fuck it. Afobe will have known all about this.

He must have been in on it. He gets two lots of money for signing and there was no photo shoot when he signed

Nor has there been for Boly or Jota though (yet).

I'm not too fussed about Afobe, was happy for him to be back up but maybe the club made it clear to him and he's decided he doesn't want another seasons struggling for games. He'll get plenty of goals next season.

Sky Sports believe it's in the region of £15m :icon_lol:

I'm not hugely comfortable with how we've done business with this. I just hope Adobe was fully aware and happy with the situation.

The fact that he seems to have not issued anything via twitter when we signed him would indicate that he was fully aware

He may be dissapointed, but it comes down to whether he wants to play serious minutes next season or not - probably the right result for all parties (apart from Bournemouth, but not really fussed about them)

He was our player as of 1 June so we were perfectly entitled to do whatever we want with him.

I don't see how it helps anyone to sign him and then be obliged to keep him around until January or even next summer when he's not wanted and wouldn't have played.

If you were daft enough to set up a deal with me to buy your bike for £800 when I knew full well I could sell it to someone else for £1k, that'd be your problem when I punted it on, having never even wanted a bike in the first place :)

Especially as the basic profit here pays for Raul Jimenez for a year

The purist in me would rather us not have signed him if we had no intention of having him in the squad. Seems a bit loophole tastic. Bit of a Del Woppio trick.

Benik is still able to live near his BFF and bromance partner, so he'll be happy.

If Bournemouth wanted him off the books & couldn't be arsed to find out if there were any other suitors at a higher price then that's their problem (though as with other loanees did we have an agreed buy price if we wanted to exercise it at the end of the loan?)

For months people were backing us to sign Leo permanently, not only because of what he was doing on the field but because the reported agreed permanent fee of £5m seemed to be miles below his true value, so we couldn't lose on the deal regardless. The prospect of simply making a quick buck was mentioned multiple times. Indeed if he hadn't fallen away quite so sharply then I have no doubt that we'd have gone ahead with it.

Don't get why it would have been ok with him, but it's not ok with Afobe. I'll grant you that Leo hasn't ever kissed the badge or cried in his car outside Compton.

I would imagine Benik is accepting rather than happy about the situation. He undoubtedly would like to have been in the PL with us but the double dip on signing on fees I'm sure will have cushion the blow. We made the purchase at the death of the clause after the word was we weren't going to buy him, so the transfer was already lined up. My guess is Bournemouth quoted Stoke more than they've now paid and a deal was done behind their back. Naturally because it's Wolves social media portrays us as some kind of people traffickers, but this will be Thelwell rather than Mendes and he's played a blinder.

I'd have the same opinion if we did the same with Leo.

Good business. He didn't fit the system and he wouldn't have started games.

I'm perfectly fine with this. If we have made £5m then great. Welcome to the new (Fosun) world. Benik is a top Champ player who will always fall short in the Premier League in my view. If it is a 6 month loan with an obligation to buy then great: if someone wants to offer me 12/1 about him being top scorer in the Champ I'll have some of that

I'm sure he would have preferred to stay here and be in the Premier League but if Nuno didn't see a role for him then so be it. We can't afford to be sentimental here.

Besides, he couldn't wait to get away a couple of years ago when we would have preferred him to knuckle down and score goals for us.

It's football, tough

I think it is a great deal. Stoke get a player they want. Bournemouth lose a player they don't want. We cream off the profit. Winner winner chicken dinner.

I just don't get why though.

Are you saying that every single player we ever sign has to be a proper first team player or it's immoral in some way down the line? Are you ok with us picking up Duckens Nazon on a free, loaning him out for a year and then making money when we sell him on this summer, with him never having even made the bench for us?

Or is it a timescale thing, would we have been alright doing this in January after Ben had played two League Cup games and come off the bench three times in the league?
