Summer 2021 transfer window

How else would you expect to be able to compete, without endless investment like Man City?

We (Leicester) haven't done too badly following the same model.

The problem that I see, is that recent recruitment hasn't been good enough recently, and that these 'resalable assets' like Neves/Traore, have been there for 2-3 years now, without the list of assets being added too.
Podence/Cutrone/Semedo/Dendoncker haven't been added to that list, for example, and wouldn't be worth more than they were signed for.

Why was Jota sold so cheap?
Contract issues or a release clause?
Our recruitment hasn't been good recently, and we've spent more on some players than we probably should have.

Jota looked pretty poor at the end of his time with us, my suspicion is that he got tapped up. If he'd stayed and continued to under perform we'd have lost more value on him. That said we probably did sell him for £5-10m less than we should have done.

You must be feeling pretty smug with Leicesters recruitment right now in comparison.

£45m was a fair fee for Jota. His upturn now is a lot to do with Klopp just being a fantastic coach, and he gets 5-6 chances a game with Liverpool whereas he got 2-3 with us.

...and would frequently kick his own heels

Even in retrospect Jota was the best player to sell given he effectively swept away any FFP issues looming after the UEFA ruling in one deal, Leon is right though about lack of recent success for that model. I still maintain that Neto should have been getting more noise about young Premier league player of the year or whatever it's actually called, his best games were in excess of Mason' Mount's best games and he did it whilst frankly carrying a hideous Wolves team.

Just hoping this Kieffer Moore thing is a bargaining chip for something else we're doing
I get the feeling it's more of a bargaining chip for something else Moore and his agent are doing.

Isn't a lot of Neto's praise, elevated because he is out injured though, and Traore is missing chances?
In their last 2 league seasons at Wolves, Jota scored 16, Neto 8 and Traore 6.

So based on that, either Neto is worth about £30-35 million max, or Jota was sold for cheap.

I wouldn't say 'smug'.....Happy? Of course.
Our success is both the best, and worst thing to happen, for a football fan of a club not Man United/Liverpool/Chelsea etc.

Every club now has fans 'dreaming' of 'doing a Leicester'.
But the reality is, they don't understand the level of investment and infrastructure that has been built into the club, to make the success possible...And also for further success to follow.

The media has done a very lazy job reporting on it. Which helps to build the 'Fluke' narrative.
And there's still a narrative that Leicester are not here for the 'long-term'.

They don't report much on the £100 million Training ground....Not something a club does if not looking to compete at the very top in the long-term.
They don't report on the same level of investment going into the Stadium. Increasing capacity by 8000, and up to 55,000 over time. The construction of an entire complex around the ground, Arena/Hotel/Retail Outlets etc, to increase club revenue and to increase what we can spend to comply with FFP.
They don't report that we are doing all this....Whilst also having our highest net spend in our history this summer, in a time during Covid! Where every other club is claiming they have no money.

I can't be 'Smug' about something, as a fan, I can't really contribute too.
But what I can be, is incredibly grateful, for having the best owners in the country.

It's not all about goals, Jota is the only one of the three to have played up front for any real period of time to skew figures in his favour somewhat.

How do they compare on assists? From memory Jota was pretty poor in that regard, Traore had a prolific spell and I can't remember much either way for Neto.

10 of Jota's 16 goals in 2019/20 came in four games.

Two hatricks in the Europa League v Espanyol and Besiktas and two braces in games against Brighton and Norwich.

That left 6 goals in the remaining 44 appearanceshe made that season.

On face value 16 goals looks a good return but it covers up some properly barren runs where Diogo really struggled.

Part of that was him, and part of that was being throttled by Nuno ball but the fee for him going to Liverpool for that time with that background was just about fair.

Neto has an immense ceiling and is a ridiculous talent. If he leaves Wolves it will be for a LOT more than the fee we got for Jota.

Neto is only just 21 and looked like potentially making the Portugal main squad for the Euros. His goals need adding to but he looks at place in the Prem already, his development during his first year factored into the decision to let Jota go.

You obviously won't get the context but there is a Neto thread around here somewhere from when he signed, where you can see me having a hissy fit and calling it a clear tax scam...so it's not easier for me to now have to continually think about how wrong that was🤦‍♂️

Certainly. I talked with Johnny in the pub yesterday after the game (amazingly not about the plus and minus of Fabio) and we both thought in Bruno’s style of play Jota would have been perfect for us. Ah well, it’s gone and we have to move on.

I'd usually agree....
But for every comment I see bashing Traore's end product, I also see the likes of 'Neto would have scored that' etc.

In their last 2 seasons at Wolves.

Neto - 8 goals 9 assists.
Traore - 6 goals 11 assists.
Jota - 16 goals 6 assists.

Neto is an outlier a bit because of missing games with some niggles. Trust me, he is going to be special when he is back (assuming he returns as the same player). He is genuinely thrilling.

All my stats are PL games only mate.

Jota is a great player. We miss him from the season that he ruined your lot at Molineux. But he’s history for us now and doing well at Anfield. Without the injury Neto looked like the new crown jewel, although in a different position. I hope he comes back as good as he was before his injury.
