Nobody is disputing less glamorous signings can work but some of us feel too often we don’t cast our net as wide as we could. Is Sa the best keeper available at a given price or is he the best Mendes client available?I think there's a danger of just writing everything off post-Nuno before we've even seen what it actually looks like.
I'm not advocating signing a bunch of no-hopers and crossing our fingers in silence, and I've been plenty critical of some of our transfers in the past, but I feel like there's a danger of holding ourselves to impossible/unrealistic standards... these 'best that are out there' players. Maybe we'll sign a couple of them (Trincao?), with maybe a couple of gambles too.
There are very good PL players who came to clubs with little fanfare or pedigree and are now coveted. It can happen.

I suspect its the latter but if he's ok it doesn't matter to me.....if he's shit of course, I'll soon be on the Mendes out bandwagonNobody is disputing less glamorous signings can work but some of us feel too often we don’t cast our net as wide as we could. Yeah, we can't have our cake and eat it but we've got to the point where the absolute top Mendes clients who would improve us aren't necessarily going to come here, so it would make sense to cast a wider net where we might better value where we couldn't previously.I suspect its the latter but if he's ok it doesn't matter to me.....if he's shit of course, I'll soon be on the Mendes out bandwagon
Not many were complaining about Mendes when we were signing Rui, Jota, Neves, Boly, Jiminez etc.....seems a bit hypocritical to do so now.
Then happy to be a hypocrite. YW has described the difference. Getting you better than you'd ordinarily get versus getting you the best he has who'd come to you.I suspect its the latter but if he's ok it doesn't matter to me.....if he's shit of course, I'll soon be on the Mendes out bandwagon

Oh I agree with you (and YW) in principal and as a club we should be working towards that, nothing has really happened yet though apart from Trincao who is probably as good as we could hope for with or without Mendes. Sa could well end up being top class, I've only seen DW that has had completely negative views on him (he could well be right of course)Then happy to be a hypocrite. YW has described the difference. I want what's best for Wolves, not Mendes. If the two align then I'm happy with that, if they don't, I'm not
Aside from the fees in general (Doherty, Fabio being the obvious ones) I think it only really bothers me when it comes to the manager and the goalkeeper, both of which we've obviously turned this Summer. I just think if you narrow your search in those crucial areas then you are unlikely to get the best option for where we are at now as a club. Naturally I hope both Lage and Sa if he comes prove to be great signingsOh I agree with you (and YW) in principal and as a club we should be working towards that, nothing has really happened yet though apart from Trincao who is probably as good as we could hope for with or without Mendes. I'm just not ready to completely bin off Mendes until such time as its proven he has a negative impact overall over a period of time.
That is very true , but a bit utopian. We are in bed with Mendes, like it or not , so the majority of business is always likely to come through him. Its the nature of the arrangement and unlikely to change much.I just think if you narrow your search in those crucial areas then you are unlikely to get the best option for where we are at now as a club.
And I am with you there. They could easily be an upgrade or a downgrade, but I am reserving judgement until I have seen wolves in action for a 3rd of the season.Naturally I hope both Lage and Sa if he comes prove to be great signings

The Colonel better go into hiding at this rate."The operation also targets the businessman and his friend José António dos Santos, known as the 'king of chickens' and the largest private shareholder of Benfica SAD"
Nothing says shady organisation like "king of chickens".
