Summer 2020 Transfer Window (Extended Version)

Fantastic article on Voady in the times sport section today. He played almost 5000 minutes this season. In fact 5 of the top 10 players in the premier league with regard to most minutes played come from Wolves

Patricio
Jimenez
Neves
Moutinho

All have over 4000 minutes this season. That says two things. We have an amazing fitness team and we don’t have huge squad depth. But we knew that. Let’s see what happens this window and how we do on EL.

Not posted since before the lockdown and honestly can say I have enjoyed the break, the only thing I will add on this is the comments about his age. 33 year old Jamie Vardy and 31 year old Patrick Abuameyang just contested the Golden boot, both players that rely on their pace too for their style. Similar thing in Italy where a 30 year old won the golden boot.

People need to reevaluate this idea that a player is old at 30, and will just completely drop off. With advances in sports science, nutrition and lifestyle this is no longer the case it would appear.

Welcome back, hope you’re safe. Missed you etc xx

(But genuinely, good to have you back)

I don't think he'll ever go for a big squad, maybe 2 or 3 potential first teamers at the most

We don’t need a load of first team signings. I’d say 3-4 max. Centre back, a forward and a creative midfield option?

If no one leaves, bare minimum we need 1x first team centre back and a decent Raul understudy. I won't hold my breath for more than that.

If we're not going for quantity fair enough, need to make sure we have quality then, unlike last summer.

With Europe very unlikely a small squad should be less challenging

With Arsenal winning y/day this becomes a big window for me. I don't think not being in Europe will impact recruitment or retention for one season - if we miss out in 20/21 then I think it will be. So 3 quality additions in the positions we all know we need, and have a real go at the top 6, plus the cups, which is a max of about 50 games in the season.

The bookies have us at 11/4 for the top 6 next season: we can absolutely do it.

I agree, we had Europe as carrot last summer and signed Cutrone, Vallejo and the Portuguese kids, so I doubt it was a major factor then, and hopefully won't hold us back too much this summer

I’m not sure we can sign someone as an “option” who is really good. I’d say a better CB and possibly WB allows us to get more from the attacking and midfield options we already have. Small tactical tweak to allow the whole team to move up the pitch and more players ahead of the ball.

I already like what I have seen more recently of Donck getting forward more from the 2.

Smaller workload on the squad may mean we are more likely to this as we won’t be managing players so they are able to get up and down more rather than us sitting deep.

Think you might be disappointed, Neto and Podence I see as quality signings from last season, can't see us getting much better than those, if that turns out to be a striker and CB, I'll be happy, plus a creative/attacking midfielder if possible. We won't be bringing in any big name, big money signings imo. Something we really need to address is a replacement for Moutinho, he's been fantastic but we can't keep expecting him to nearly every minute of every game....perhaps Jordao might be groomed for that

If we roll out variations of the same starting 11 next season we'll be playing for 7th again imo. That's still phenomenal for where we've been for the last 40 years, but at least 2 new starters are required if we are going to crack the top 6.

Cash (or Cancelo if we can get him)
New CH (I don't really have any names outwith Dias, and I don't know how realistic that is)
Eze

I would be very happy with that.

Probably, even if we do make some good signings, it might still be 7th we're near to, imo top 6 is going to be much more competitive next season. Man U, Leicester, Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and us (possibly more) will all be targetting 3-6......I'm assuming Liverpool and City will be 1-2 again

Is Shabani any good... He's fit again, but I genuinely have no idea.

We will do better than Leicester. Wheels are already off, there’s no way their squad is better than ours, their reserve options are all old, shite or both. Morgan, Fuchs, Gray, Albrighton, Mendy, Praet. Rely heavily on Vardy.

Saying that they all but had top 4 this year, so if our squad is better than theirs then no reason we can’t give it a good go with a couple of additions

Cordoba isn't very good. I'm using my veto here.

Better or worse than Wesley?

Some decent finishes in there and he’s a big lad! Without knowing how good he is, he looks more suited to our style than Cutrone did.

Yeah option was a poor word to use. I was thinking more a Marc Roca midfielder who can come in and challenge to start in our team, but also give us something different.

Agree about Dendoncker, allows us to play a bit higher and commit players in attack when we may need to.

What is Roca going to offer which Moutinho doesn’t already. That’s a high bar.
