Summer 2020 Transfer Window (Extended Version)

Also, Matheson is 18 in October - any idea how far away from being ready for the 1st team he is?

No one knows right now. Presume he will be with the 1st team (what we have left with Internationals and sales/loans) from tomorrow. I think he will be with us for September for a proper assessment and could make his debut in the League Cup

I am proposing a little game I am calling ITK transfer bingo - simply pluck 6 footballers that you either want us to sign, think we will sign, or just pick Victor Moses like I have done as Chelsea want him to leave and you can see him being a last minute panic loan because you are needlessly pesimistic! Whoever gets the most right will win the title of Wolves forum resident ITKer - and will be the defacto final word on all future rumours and can act like a real big shot...

My 6

Victor Moses
Ludovic Ajorque
Kevin Volland
James Tarkowski
Tete
Maitland-Niles

Aarons would be great, Dalot would be ok and more likely imo.

Why not both! Pretty sure people have said on here they can both play either side (and in our system that’s easier to do than your traditional WB).

In all seriousness I expect 1 WB early doors, and then the calibre of the second will depend on how well Vinagre does in the first 4 games.

Even if Ruben does really well (I have faith he will do himself justice) we need two coming in with Jonny injured IMO. I’m sure most agree but I’d be worried if we still only had two when the window closed

We can’t expect Matheson to be a first team option just yet. He’d have to be pretty special in any chance he got in training/cup game to even get near at this point

Having taken Sunday off, I take two hours reading the transfer thread and learn

1) "chode" is a word in the English language.

2) Someone who posts on here is apparently female.

3) We might or might not be interested in Diogo Dalot.

Two hours of mostly tedious arguments between frustrated posters who don't know what the club is doing and who are very defensive about their own views. Two hours I was happy to spend in the hope of gaining some insight into what the club is doing while also knowing I would not be successful.

The new season cannot start soon enough.

Sounds encouraging. Although yesterday on here we were told wanting 4-5 first team players was setting the bar 'ludicrously high'. If this report is true it's good to see the club are more ambitious.

I dunno, about 2 months ago I floated wanting 3 first 11 quality signings and a couple of people felt it exceptionally unlikely that we'd be signing that many.
The shifting sands that can be football now means that common consensus is that's the minimum we need. Reading this thread recently, it appears some will view 3 signings as insufficient.

I suspect that Nuno, and others within the management team wanted the break until 1 sept for the reasons quoted - we know Nuno has missed his family, and it is likely others within his team could be in a similar situation.

It would be reasonable, and sensible by the club to give the management and playing staff a considerable amount of time with their families. I would suggest it will have a long term benefit. It will also be in line with the ethos the club have been developing.

In like with Aikiwolfs post yesterday, the daz hale quote is also probably in line with most fans views. We know the squad size is unlikely to be increased. Therefore, there are 3 players (Bennett, MGW, Cutrone) We need to upgrade on for definite. We were also potentially light in the WB role, as we had 3 players for 2 positions. Injury and a transfer have reduced that to 1, so more activity needed. So he doesn't really bring anything new or significant to the party.

I'd also realistically be expecting the club is looking at upgrading Saiss (but keeping him as a squad player). I still feel Boly works better on the left of the 3.

I think it very unlikely Nuno would have made the comments after the Sevilla game had he not been contemplating those issues for a while. He will possibly have been reviewing options since march. Lockdown and suspension of football may have even allowed him and his team more time to think about what they want to do next. Pure supposition on my part, but the way fosun and Nuno work tends to have a lot of planning behind it. I guess that's why I am not really concerned at this time.

Looks decent enough but likes a yellow card.

Darwin Nunez is close to joining Benfica apparently. They've bought a German striker too, I wonder if Vinicius is on his way out?

We won't sign Vinicius for the fee they'd want just to play 2ns fiddle to Raul.

Who knows what his links/sources are but I thought it was a nice change in direction for the thread
He does have contacts within the club in a knowing the team the night before, transfers before they are announced etc kind of way so would probably be aware of the wish list without knowing who was on it. Certainly isn't going to Penn Tandoori with Jeff.

He doesn't post that much directly on Wolves so when he does it has some basis and he is a died in the wool fan, in the at Chorley 3 times sense.

Luca Waldschmidt? Will play as more of a winger/attacking midfielder. Benfica play a very attacking 4-4-2, they need another striker to partner Vinícius as Seferović is absolute shite & Chiquinho is decent but not quite good enough for where they're aiming.

Great response, thanks.

I think my concern level is slightly higher because I think, after the initial 2018 strengthening, we've found it difficult to make those next steps recruitment-wise in the PL. Our signings since then have been a mixed bag, and when you throw in losing a wanted first teamer for the first time and the short turnaround of seasons, I fear we'll be playing catch up and make it even harder to qualify for Europe, which has to be our target

Yeah, my concern (I do have them, honest :D ) is that we have a great opportunity on paper to get a serious haul of points out of the first seven games. So going in undercooked or understrength is not ideal, we could win most of those fixtures BUT we need to be on our game.

Looking back to around lockdown there was plenty of debate on ins and outs and my memory summarises them as this

Outs
Traore for silly money
MGW on loan
Bennett to lecister

Ins

Replace Doc and bench Doc
Back up for Raul
New Cm
Replace or Upgrade Saiss and bench him.

That was pretty much it. Since then we lost Jonny long term , sold Doc and loaned MGW. Our only signing was Villas reserve reserve keeper. So I am very concerned that we could be playing unnecessary catch up. We have seen to our cost that fine margins make huge differences and that cost us European football. We have come so far so quickly but it is a long term project and I do not believe you can stand still. I really want some bright news soon. Too many Wolves fans are feeling twitchy.

Hm. There's an Arsenal account (nothing official) saying we went back in for AMN @ £22m last night and got turned down again.

Could be BS.

Where’s Spiers when you need him? Won’t be long until he comes out and says no to all the rumours surely!
