Summer 2020 Transfer Window (Extended Version)

There was quite an interesting conversation on Tariq Panja’s post (below) on twitter earlier:

Matt Doherty transfer to Spurs is perhaps the most Jorge Mendes influenced signing I can think of. He’s an advisor to Wolves owners, who also have a stake in his business; he’s agent to Wolves coach Nuno; to Spurs coach Mourinho; he’s also Doherty’s agent. Clean sweep?

Interesting that he later indicated we had a replacement coming in from Valencia (Thierry Correia), another Mendes club.

So they’ve just copied the mirror article

Apologies if posted before - my sanity didn’t allow me to read all the previous posts on this thread!

Understandable!

There was an article the other night that the daily mirror “revealed” saying pretty much exactly what that says

Who knows what his links/sources are but I thought it was a nice change in direction for the thread

Definately better than all the handbags. Genuinely have no idea if he is any way itk though, but hope he is.

He has had a few moments in the past. His post can be taken as a bit ITK or just his opinion but it at least offers a different angle on the Nuno situation

Definitely thought that was the situation with Nuno anyway, because of the lockdown and the quarantine rules he hadn't seen his family for a long time and would not want that to be disrupted by anything.

In terms of signings i'm quite calm at the moment even with Doc gone but again i'm not as gutted by the £15 million fee as some are even though i do think we maybe could have got more. Fast forward 2/3 weeks and then again to the end of the transfer window and we haven't strengthened adequately then i will voice my unhappiness but i'm not going to peak too soon when we have no idea what is going on behind closed doors. It seems a lot of journalists are guessing and some fans believe everything written as gospel when they all end up contradicting each other somehow.

I don't really think anyone's 'unhappy' on here currently? Being concerned and not just presuming everything is part of the masterplan doesn't equate unhappiness.

Your point above reads very well and is quite de rigueur on here at the moment, but honestly I find it hard to believe.

Let's be truthful, if we haven't strengthened adequately in 2, 3 or 5 weeks people already moaning will probably be moaning more, and people currently being calm will be even more defensive. Definitions of what 'adequately' constitutes and all other kinds of whataboutery will come to the fore, I imagine.

Don't know why you find it hard to believe, I think this is where most peoples view is, mine certainly is. As for 'adequately' thats a very personal view, mine will be different to others. You seem to be picking faults in peoples opinions for no apparent reason

Bit I have bolded I would say is pretty much the positions I would have hoped we'd look at (In Jonny's case only because of his serious injury). So I hope this is the case!

Sounds encouraging. Although yesterday on here we were told wanting 4-5 first team players was setting the bar 'ludicrously high'. If this report is true it's good to see the club are more ambitious.

Just on this... Yesterday it was suggested that upgrading 4 to 5 STARTING first team players would be ludicrous. The named players are 1 starting XI rwb, 1 injured starting lwb and 3 squad/bench/already left players

I don't think 'picking faults in peoples opinions' is a crime on an online football forum...

It's not a virtue to say you're calm and unconcerned all the time, then push your actual (potentially messy) appraisals into a theoretical future time that will probably never come.

If you want to know why I find it hard to believe, I'll give you an example; we didn't strengthen adequately last summer, and a year later there's plenty of resistance to either accepting that or mental gymnastics to justify it

Not meaning to single DW out, but this is the actual quote

But they weren't asking for 2-3. They were asking for five. All first teamers.

Never going to happen.

No mention of starters, just first teamers. I'm not sure when the initial, unreasonable 'we want 4-5 players or else' discussion was either, I don't recall it unless it was a while ago (happy to be corrected), but if it's referring to a conversation on Friday between me and Premier Quality about our ideal signings, we both said 3 (4 if we were being greedy), and they weren't all starters.

I would say there's quite a few people not happy that we have sold Doc and don't have a replacement waiting in in the wings for all we know so to me therefore i would say they are unhappy, if that's not the case then fair enough, i don't think it's that important to be honest. I was merely saying if the club do not reinforce the squad within those timescales then i would be unhappy.

I don't think you could be more wrong if i'm honest especially where i'm concerned, if we haven't strengthened adequately then in that many weeks i will be saying as much. I agree adequately will differ from fan to fan but until everything is finalised i can't really say what adequately is. I can want all sorts of players in all sorts of positions but i'll judge what players we do actually sign.

Fair enough response, I'm sure you know your own mind, I'm just going by patterns of behaviour I've seen on here.

I guess even if they happen again and I pointed it out no-one would listen anyway!

If the usually shit WM is on the money then I'll be happy

Also, Matheson is 18 in October - any idea how far away from being ready for the 1st team he is?

Can't speak for anyone else but this is the first i've said on the matter apart from saying i would take between £15 and £20 million for Doc if it meant we moved away from the goal kicks and kick offs aimed at his head and i still stand by that, i want to see us playing more football next season. I would agree that the recruitment was wrong last season in terms of Vallejo and Cutrone, i've not given them a free pass on it but i can cope with them getting things wrong here and there especially when they had got it so right the year before. As i said earlier i will be disappointed if they get it wrong this year though as without Europe we've got a big chance to push on again but recruitment has to be right but i still feel Nuno has to evolve and adapt too.

I'm pretty sure people would listen if the point is put across in the right way, i think that often doesn't happen whatever the discussion points are and then inevitably people start being dicks towards each other which bring the whole conversation down and it goes round and round in circles.
