Summer 2020 Transfer Window (Extended Version)

It's Doherty. Very sad sentimentality wise as he has played for us for yonks - but we can get better.
We CAN get better, to date we haven't. I have no doubt we want to and will try to but as thus far we haven't I find the smugness of some somewhat grating.

we have just sold our best RWB and nobody in so guess its a valid point when we already have a very small squad?

But as I say - not everyone in the entire world can always have the replacement in first, logically it doesn't make any sense? Someone has to budge first. Presumably with the confidence that they will bring in who they want (and equally presumably, they believe this new guy will be better).

No smugness here. I don't think he will have gone without a plan B - we will just have to wait and see.

I'd happily bet cash money that nobody has been 'knocked aht dahn the boozer' for calling somebody a "chin stroking pseud". There are some wild claims on this forum, and that's bang up there

Why don't you wander round some pubs, bundle into random conversations like that and see how you get on? I'll film it if you like. And since when have I talked like that, you weirdo?

Anyway.

We signed Jonny in 2018. Clearly the replacement for Baz (although we didn't know that at the time, I think we suspected he was actually to play RWB). Baz gone two days later.

Last year we got rid of Cav on 13 July. Neto didn't arrive until about three weeks later. The sequencing doesn't always line up how you'd ideally like but I'd challenge anyone to argue that we got those two wrong. Sometimes someone has to go out of the door first. So long as the end result is right, who cares.

Neto replacing Cav was bench for bench though at least initially and as you say Jonny came in before Baz left and it become obvious straight away that he was there to play LWB. This is the first time we've moved on a first 11 player without signing the replacement first under Fosun, irrespective of what individual views of Doherty are.

Sorry , jot relevant to your latest post, but I just got home, and what the fuck has bonatini got to do with anything? Unless of course it's not 2020 and I am not 68 years old but 168?

The thing that makes me laugh about this thread is we are wanking our pants/or shitting them over Doc/AMN, but are we missing the big one.......NUNO hasn't signed fuck all yet, so doc and MNS? who gives a ffffffffff!

Yeah, well without checking I bet people were moaning about "no depth" once we got rid of Cav (even though he demonstrably wasn't good enough). Then Neto was just a ringer and we were doing Jorge a favour.

So don't give me the spiel that this forum is overly positive :icon_lol: It's a perpetual cesspool of "what could go wrong" on the whole. Even on MM they seem more open to accepting Doc's defects.

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned but we also reportedly signed Jonny for £15M. I don’t think £15M is really too unreasonable for Doherty really. Especially considering if they try to play him as a fullback it’s going to be directly at the detriment of one of our closest rivals in the table.

Maybe Jeff has had enough of Nuno and is talking to Poch!!

Can someone tell me as an absolute fact that we sold Doch for 15 mill, with no add one.

If you can I will start to take this thread marginally seriously.

It's pretty much 100% accurate as Bohemians board have been commenting in the press about what they will do with 1.7m euros

Exactly, we may well sign “Player A” tomorrow or in 5 weeks. The closer that happens, the better it will be for us (if it is of course the same player in both instances), because they will a) settle in to their surroundings sooner b) do some training with the team/nuno c) be available for more games.

Currently we have “Doc is easy to upgrade”, “they’ll have someone lined up” (would be gross negligence if they didn’t tbf). But I’m expecting that to change to “we’re at a position where it’s hard to upgrade this squad” “FFP” “Short break” “hard with no Europe” “COVID affecting the market” etc. Like we’ve had previously when history is rewritten.

If someone signs in the next few days when they go back to training then fine, was no need to moan. We will see won’t we

If we don't sign anyone then rest assured I won't be making any excuses for anyone. Although I'll maintain that Matt Doherty is not a good footballer and I doubt I'll miss him.

Farewell to Matt Doherty, feels strange to see him leave. After wanting him out for quite some time it is weird to see him actually go, thought he would stay forever. Utter rubbish before Nuno, got lucky in the manager using a system which was almost perfect for him, utilising what he had and minimising the flaws. But I will credit him for working hard under Nuno to improve - this was a guy I wrote off as a League One fullback and he is now going to start for Tottenham! Some good memories to be fair, popped up with some important goals. I've softened on him a bit and do wish him well for the future, though I'm doubtful of how well he will do at Spurs as a RB.

Assuming it is £15m I can't shake the feeling we have undervalued him in the sale (but is that based in reality or just in fans overrating the value of their own players?). Though at the same time, the guy had obviously peaked at Wolves - in fact I would say he has slightly declined from last season. I could not see him improving any further at the club and he isn't getting any younger. If there is any time to cash in, now is the time. One of the main candidates if you asked everyone to pick out an area of the first XI that needs improving too.

Not too concerned if we are not signing AMN - doesn't seem that good. Brings some versatility but not sure what else. It's a bit concerning that we have nobody in the position currently but that concern is only natural. We're obviously looking for a new WB and I highly, highly doubt that Maitland-Niles was our only target.

Lot of criticism about our window last summer, Vallejo and Cutrone each didn't work out for their own reasons but I thought the club did at least sign the right positions. The main issue was that the personnel didn't click (Cutrone) or were not good enough (Vallejo). The only time it has felt like we were truly short in a position under Nuno was striker at the start of 17-18 (which worked out anyway). I have faith in the club to get someone in - my main concern is the quality of the arrival. I don't think Maitland-Niles was right; oh well - next target (Matty Cash perhaps?).

100% certain we will have signed a new RWB by the start of the season. I'll panic if we do not come deadline day. Sorry if I have repeated what has already been said, reading back has been quite tedious.
