Summer 2017 Window Thread

It's not a ringing endorsement but I'd rather have Barnes than Hugill. I agree what was said earlier in the thread re Gayle, we've just sold Dicko because he doesn't fit the system Gayle is a big upgrade bit equally as unsuitable, he's a finisher, that's not what we are looking for or at least shouldn't be unless we are going back to 4 at the back or 352 which would be a massive about turn

£18m for a similar kind of player that Dicko is, just a bit better in goalscoring..no thanks

He did pull off one ridiculous flick vs Yeovil that should have been impossible.

I don't see him scoring 15+, but he's a good player and will be valuable as the season goes on.

I think he can get close to 15. Considering he is a Brazilian, moved to our league via the league he did he has settled pretty well so far I'd say

Not totally convinced by Gayle. I know he scored a lot of goals for Newcastle last season and he's quick... very quick, but technically he isn't the best player. His touch isn't fantastic and he isn't the biggest of players either (to be playing up top by himself). The fact he's British means we'll have to pay a sizable transfer fee for him too - £18m has been suggested - and he's already struggled at the top level on more than one occasion.

Personally, I can't see us being in for him. I think we'll get someone playing abroad.

Nuno has said on more than one occasion that he wants someone who can link play. A player that works alongside the likes of Jota, Costa, Cav etc. I don't think Dwight Gayle is that player.

I'd rather sign nobody than Gayle for £15m. Costa/Jota/Cav will be the best front three in the division, so whoever comes in needs to be an improvement there

I don't think Gayle would be as good as some think.
It's well known that we're after someone who can link play and I don't think that's Gayle, he's got pace and can finish but as for linking play, I don't think that's in his game from what I've seen of him anyway.

I like Gayle but if we're spending that much on one player, I want them to be able to make the step up should we win promotion, and be a big part of a team capable of staying up there. I'm not 100% convinced he could do that - same as Jordan Rhodes. Decent players - VERY decent at this level, but I suppose I'm feeling a bit spoiled by the likes of Neves and Jota who I honestly think are playing way below the level they're capable of.

I still think we'll bring in someone most Wolves fans have never heard of - and after one glance at Wikipedia will suddenly announce the 2nd coming.

Totally agree.

I'd agree wit this, I think we can quite comfortably reach 15 goals each from Bonatini, Cav, Costa and Jota. That's 60 goals right there. Add another 10 from Neves, Saiss and others and we're looking for 10 goals from a new man to back up Bonatini. 80 goals would be a good goal to aim for. (and before anybody pipes up about clean sheets and defence, I think we have this sorted bar a RWB for Doherty).

A lot of people on here keep mentioning a front 3 not involving an actual proper striker. Bright has been keeping Cav out the team... Dicko has been coming on for Bonatini... Why are we suddenly going to play a false CF type and no striker. I just don't see it.

Cav did very well in the friendly against Leicester and against big brutish centre backs a fluid front three may well work better.

As for outgoings - I'm sad that Dicko has gone, but completely understand the decision. He's been brilliant for us and I wish him well but we really shouldn't be looking backwards anymore. The changes to the playing squad since the end of last season has been ridiculous, and I never ever could have imagined we'd have seen such a massive improvement in personnel. We've got a very good fee for Dicko and I'll keep an eye out during the rest of his career as I want him to succeed.

As for the nostalgia regarding Edwards - it's a good thing he's gone. Nice bloke, done lots for the club off the pitch but I can't understand anyone saying we'll miss him on it.

As for Lonners - well, lolz. I can't say I'll miss him as often as he misses crosses.

To have recouped as much money as we have from a squad of deadwood who pissed us all off so consistently over the past few years is fantastic work. Bravo, Wolves.

Please not Hugill..agree with Jinks and Langers

I think a focal point to our attack is important, that person has to hold the ball and bring the likes of Costa and Jota into play higher up the pitch, Bonatini has done that job reasonably well so far and I would agree Gayle isn't really that type of player as good as he is. In games where the other side park the bus a fluid front 3 with Cav up top could work very nicely to move and create space.

We will have to adapt in games but we need different options I am also convinced it will be a complete surprise, can't wait!

I also agree with the notion that we aren't looking for the typical 20-25 striker with a 10 goal supporting forward more 15 goals from a front 3 with others chipping in from the bench.

Fucking hell. I just went on the Wolves-news FB page and now I have aids. Booked myself in to the doctors this afternoon. Hope they can fix me
