attack is the best defence :)

Highly recommend Jonathan Wilson's Inverting the Pyramid, btw - one of the best books on football I've read. Much more compelling than you'd expect a history of tactics to be. Starts in the 19th century with the 2-3-5 pyramid, ends with its inversion, the modern day "Christmas tree" 4-3-2-1, and explores where basically every formation you've ever heard of (and a fair few you won't have) came from.

Could we do it? Not that we should obvs

-----------------------------Ruddy

--------------------Boly--------------Miranda

----------------Doherty-----Neves---------Douglas

-Cav-------Jota-------Bonatini------Costa--------Graham

it would certainly make other teams think twice how to defend :icon_lol:

Fully looks like a pisstake FIFA formation. Asif everyone actually used it

That would be ace.

Blates gotta swap Costa and Cav over though.

games would probabaly end 5-3 and 6-4 more than 2-0, 1-0 and such

They certainly did, but you have to remember it wasn't the same game as now, the ball was about 10Kg's heavier in the mud!

i would love to try it in the league cup vs teams like yeovil for example :)

Plan B, switch to that if we are one down with twenty minutes left.

2 full backs
3 centre halves
2 wingers
2 inside forwards
1 centre forward

half-backs rather than centre halves! There was a left half and a right half...

It's also where the "standard" 1-11 numbers come from, the levels across the pitch, right to left:

1 - GK
2,3 - full backs
4, 5, 6 - half backs
7, 8, 9, 10, 11 - forwards

Ossie Ardiles effectively played five forwards at Spurs. It did not go well.

It was fun to watch though. At the time there was a real clamour for a more entertaining style of football, unfortunately for Ossie, he was the only Manager daft enough to do something about it.
