The Talisca rumour, despite supposedly being invented by a fan for a laugh, isn't dying - apparently he's going to sign for Liverpool, but come on season-long loan to us to get a work permit. (So say some Portuguese site.)

That doesn't sound right - the work permit is issued by the Home Office not the footballing authorities. If there is a work permit issue it is more likely Liverpool would buy him and then loan him out to a club in Europe where the permit issues are not so strict.

It is to do with the new points system. If a player is in the top percentile of earners at his club he gets a lot more work permit points.

Talisca would easily be that here, but at Liverpool he definitely wouldn't be.

I still think he'd have to be cleared for Liverpool if they hold his registration, not us. Of course with Mendes involved there could be all sorts of things going on involving 3rd party ownership etc. though I think it's illegal here.

3rd party ownership isn't allowed anywhere anymore is it?

I wonder if Mendes is trying to find a new way to shuffle his clients around Europe now that such practices have become more difficult, rather than finding external parties to subsidise transfers for clubs he may now be looking to clubs where such investment potential is already in house, he peddles his clients as a wise investment that he can then move on somewhere else a couple years later at a profit.

Not quite sure that's how it works.

I dont think that is the case, But we have to wait and see I guess

He's an athlete and he's got bags of talent but he just doesn't produce. Like if you took Sako, removed his goal threat and added van La Parra's decision making and willpower.

Well if Jeff's comments are to be taken at face value this will be the thread of choice for the foreseeable.

Whilst I am disappointed Kenny is staying there is no doubt we will get some key signings in over the next few weeks. The last excuse for Kenny was that he has had no real money (apart from Coady & Mason I would agree) so if he stuffs up now at least he cant complain. Question is whose targets will they be? I don't think they will be Kenny's or KT's .... he will most likely have to work with the players Mendes suggests. Interesting times, I shall now be hitting F5 on this thread every 5 minutes for the foreseeable future!

So... 5 to 8 new players...

Where should we be strengthening? Who should we be targeting?

Left Back

Centre Half

Central Mid

Forwards x 2

For starts.

No idea on who to target, our first signing will show where the ambition is. We get one one the players we have been linked to via Mendes and things will be looking pretty good on that front.

"I'm hoping to give the fans some surprises" regarding transfers. #wwfc

I'm not sure we need that many defenders. A left back for sure but the rest aren't bad at this level. I agree on the rest apart from RW where I'd like to see Wallace get a full season.

Players I'd like to leave: Ikeme, Edwards, Coady, Saville, Mason. No place for any of them in a footballing team.

yep, this is where it's going to get serious (I sincerely hope).

Essentially, Dicko, Graham & Iorfa; then potentially Zyro, Hause & Price are players you can see making it in the premier league.

The rest, in order to give ourselves a proper chance, need replacing or improving.
