Slovan Bratislava 1-2 Wolves: The Verdict

Donk was very good when he came on yesterday. Won the ball back loads and used it very well. Also he is a hugely different player to Saiss, so comparing him to Saiss is a bit of a non-starter.

Donk's form hasn't been great (not shit but not touching last season) but he also suffered from not having Doc in the 5-3-2 set up. Traore starting there meant he had to cover rather than bomb forward like he did when Doc was there.

I still struggle to comprehend how important Doc has become to our play, fair play to him.

woosh

Completely missed the point.

I should not be comparing Donk and Saiss. The fact that I am shows how much un-Saiss work Saiss is doing IMHO.

Donk is career DM and we are asking him to play as our most advanced midfielder in a 3. It worked well last year because everything else was working and his work rate and fitness are excellent (late runs into the box, catching up with counters, underlapping and overlapping runs making space). Now it isn’t working in the 3 so when he gets the ball we need him to do something adventurous, but that’s not his game. So it just goes sideways and backwards.

Saiss is just being Saiss. Don't think he is doing anything different...just doing it better and being consistent (which is difficult cosnidering he has been flipping between midfield and defence).
