Sheffield Wednesday 4 - Wolves 1 - a poor attempt at playing football verdict thread

Since our last home win our results and performance levels have been alarming. Since then we have looked like serious bottom 6 fodder. If we continue in this fashion we'll be back in the same world of shit we were in 3 years ago.

This is as bad as the end of Stale and peak Saunders. How we've ended up like this again within that short space of time is scary.

Based on raw stats its much worse than Solbakken. Throw in the circumstances as well and it's baffling 1) he's still got a job and 2) people aren't 100% keen for his sacking.

It's a million times worse.

Not sure that we need a lot if merely staying at this level is what we expect to achieve this season - certainly shouldn't need to sell Afobe to get that.

One decent, competent defensive organiser for this team would achieve more than one player ought to be able to (Williamson showed what was possible & I wouldn't put him at the top of the tree at this level).

There is some quality up front (even if some of it is a bit raw) but if we keep conceding an average of 3 goals per game then heads will go & we will get nowhere

The problem is one of confidence in the staff, players manager and owner. The strategy of self sufficiency is a premier league one not a championship one if you want to go forward. See plenty of stats on the improvement thread. The owner has got it wrong not investing this year. Thats by the by though. Now the players look shot and the manager looks like hes caught in the headlights. I loved pissing all over league one but I dont want a repeat in the near future thanks you and we need to buy in some stability. Given the owners reluctance to invest that means we MUST sell someone. That IMO is likely to be Afobe. I hate to say it but I wont be surprised. The only thing that stops that is Morgan getting his wallet out and that wont happen. A new manager will also want to bring in some new players in a new window. Not unreasonable.

Been out for the day. Just caught up with the goals.

Once again, the defending:

We are getting everything wrong at the back at the moment. Crap lines playing people onside, terrible individual errors, ultra shaky keeper, letting the ball bounce in the area, the lot. EEL is an absolute disaster zone. Added to which, who'd have thought that after the debacle that was Thursday that bringing in possibly the worst defender in the league, definitely one of the worst players Wolves have had in the last 20 years, and playing him out of position would not improve things?! Crazy selection once again.

As was Henry in behind Afobe, I have listened to his reasoning on both calls and none of it makes any sense. He's started wittering on about "power" for some reason, I genuinely don't understand what he's going on about. That's got nothing to do with why we're leaking goals. If he wanted to stick with this system from an attacking point of view and had finally come to his senses regarding Edwards' lack of anything, why not play the bloke HE signed who plays that position? But no, we'll stick a severely out of form winger there.

10 points from 12 games. Relegation form. Got to go as we are getting worse, not better. So many truly unacceptable displays this season.

Dont see Afobe going anywhere in January. Hes been linked to Villa, Norwich and Newcastle who are all in a relegation fight. Im sure he will sit out this season and get his move in the summer, cant see him risking ending up back in the championship come May.

Urggh, this is the first time in 10 years of living in Sheffield that I am still here at this time of the year, today has already been more unbearable than yesterday in terms of getting grief, some of my missus work mates went and put a bet on us going down! £3 at 25/1 he got.

That doesn't really add up as he's guaranteed to be in the Championship (at best) with us in May. Why wouldn't he give himself a chance in a Prem dog fight?

Apparently Swansea have had scouts watching Afobe all season.

It also gives him a stage to showcase his talent meaning he can get another move in summer if required

Sun are saying Afobe to Norwich for up to £12, but he is insisting on a relegation release clause.

Who makes the final decisions on incoming and outgoing transfers at Molineux at the moment?

Why? He's got into double figures in spite of Jacketts anti football.

True, but how many times have people gone home and said "phwoar Afobe was on fire today" this season? I'm going with very few. Yes he's not had the support he would want, but he's equally been guilty of missing a fair few chances. If I was a Prem club scout, I'd want to see more before taking a punt.
