REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

The more I'm listening to the news both last night and today it's becoming more obvious that Brexit expected to lose and haven't got a fucking clue what to do now other than leave everything as it was.
You couldn't fucking make it up!

That was my overriding thought yesterday. So many questions with regards to what happens now and what is the way forward replied with "well, we will know as soon as we start looking at it"

Surely if you are planning for the possibility you have a plan in place. Clearly not.

The responsibility (or lack of) rests squarely with the government. It has been clear for months that this could go either way and there should have been plans already in place to avoid the problems that uncertainty brings.

We have a government in place that has shown time and time again that it is unable to govern effectively and we have just handed them even more power.

Daniel Hannan Euro Tory MP and long term banger of the immigration drum as come out now it's all over to say, 'of course I've been telling my constituents while canvassing that the immigration situation will not change for a while', never fucking said that on the record before Thursday.

I think part of the problem was/is that no one know who was going to implement the change, so difficult to plan.

In theory, until yesterday, it was going to be someone campaigning to stay.

I think the opposite. The government expected Remain to be the result as did the big business, stock market traders and most of the people who actually voted leave! Cameron Corbyn Osborne should have had 2 plans but like KJ they have no plan B. Cameron falls on his sword and Corbyn belatedly tells labour voters that he will not allow austerity and tory policies to effect jobs or effect living standards. To late guys. You had your shot and completely blew it. History will show that Britain voted for a leave solution even though no one has any idea what a leave solution really looks like and had it sold by Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage. That is what you couldnt make up. The rest is just piss poor planning and arrogance from those who should have done more.

It was never going to be within the Brexit campaign team to initiate change. It was always with the government and prime minister. Now he has resigned it does leave a void and a mess naturally. One that people like Sturgeon have been quick to try and exploit. Never worry about missed opportunities as someone else will take them springs to mind.

Again I caution- let the dust settle. This was always going to be a process of at least 2 years . Probably even longer. EU want us gone tomorrow now we have voted as it causes some rot with other countries who are teetering. I get that but thats not our problem to manage.

Cameron was right not to press the button on article 50 having resigned. It shows that he was in shock and had no idea this would be the result. It was the best he could do to buy time to enable some semblance of plan B to emerge and allow a lot of uncertainty to start to dissipate. The problem is that there will now be a lot of political posturing for who is going to be leader and that is a pissing contest we could do without. As I said yesterday now is the time to unite and unite quickly. Form a solid Brexit team to assist with the negotiations. Make it all party. Let Carswell lead it. He is an MP and UKIP and really that would be about as Bexit independent as it can get. It would also introduce a bit of moderacy into the UKIP bandwagon and given the "racist concerns" that wont be a bad thing.

Lets face it the vote caught us all out and fair play to the people of Britain for doing that. It will go down as democracy in action. But it has caused a few tremors that need to be dealt with and dealt with quickly on all fronts.

Everyone knew who was going to implement - the government, that is the duty of government. It was the government who legislated for the referendum and it is they who have the responsibility to act now, not in October.

If the government is not willing to do so they should stand down.

We're not going to notice any difference, the Government has been in total paralysis for months now. Nothing has been happening, they haven't been doing anything and we're heading for recess soon.

Osborne can't do anything economically because he won't get anything passed being as everyone knows he is surely done as well. Too inextricably tied with Cameron.

They are championing Mother Therea May. She is now known as a EURO sceptic who voted remain. She would cause chaos. No public service has been safe from her narrow minded, target driven hypocritical axe swinging.

Agree with this

Theres good news and theres bad news.

Bad news is no invocation of article 50, no reduction in immigration, and no 350m for the NHS.

Good news is that Boris will get to be PM...

You're still thinking about the bad news, arent you?

I've read it in a few places. I've also read it as low as 25%.

If we have no age profile then how are the young blaming the old and why are we getting graphs of which age group voted where?
Here you go Penk, from the pro-Leave spectator. Definitely lower than the older generation, but over double what you were pushing:

Fucking Glasgow. I don't know what it is about that city but they just refuse to turn out and vote when they're needed. If they'd have bothered their arses last time the IndyRef would've been much closer.

I notice Corbyn has got the mob after him. Hang in there ...

Commissioner Lord Hill stands down - probably get a nice job with a pharmaceutical co.

In fairness I don't think that any changes would have been made so soon regardless of result! Give all sides a chance to reflect
.

I think no one should be alloiwed to resign within 1 month of such a decision. Abdicated responsibility

The leave solution is fundamentally the UK taking back control but that doesn't change the fact our economy has flatlined and we face cuts.

They negotiate new trade deals - they've done that for hundreds of years.

We are about to enter another phase of purple politics.

That's a disgrace from Glasgow.I have spoken to a lot of under 30 re this many studying for degrees or post grad. Lots of apathy and lots of mistrust of both sides and that may have helped as low turnout by u 24 s. Its a lesson to them and labour as the majority I have spoken to would have been labour voters. If we get a brexit general election soon those votes couild be the difference between a torymajority and a hung Parliament that could bring moderation

.

Not really, prior to Suez in the fifties we used guns to negotiate. From then on until 1973 we tried to do it ourselves and fucked it up.

Said on radio this morning we have less than 20 experienced trade negotiators in the whole of the civil service. It'll be guns again or beg to be part of the EEA and pay for the privilege.

Staggering to read reports this morning of people who voted Out being surprised their vote helped it happen. Seems some (I doubt it would change the outcome if you removed them from the count) just thought voting Out was a protest vote and wouldn't count as it never does in an G.E

A petition to ask for another vote as the number result should only count if the result for the winner is 60% when the turnout is below 75% (I think this is what Farage was wanting when he thought Out was losing). This now has to be discussed by Parliament as it has got over the 100k signatures needed (currently over 1.6m)

This kind of stuff is going to drag on for months and won't properly go away until Boris or whoever starts the process to leave
