I think the opposite. The government expected Remain to be the result as did the big business, stock market traders and most of the people who actually voted leave! Cameron Corbyn Osborne should have had 2 plans but like KJ they have no plan B. Cameron falls on his sword and Corbyn belatedly tells labour voters that he will not allow austerity and tory policies to effect jobs or effect living standards. To late guys. You had your shot and completely blew it. History will show that Britain voted for a leave solution even though no one has any idea what a leave solution really looks like and had it sold by Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage. That is what you couldnt make up. The rest is just piss poor planning and arrogance from those who should have done more.
It was never going to be within the Brexit campaign team to initiate change. It was always with the government and prime minister. Now he has resigned it does leave a void and a mess naturally. One that people like Sturgeon have been quick to try and exploit. Never worry about missed opportunities as someone else will take them springs to mind.
Again I caution- let the dust settle. This was always going to be a process of at least 2 years . Probably even longer. EU want us gone tomorrow now we have voted as it causes some rot with other countries who are teetering. I get that but thats not our problem to manage.
Cameron was right not to press the button on article 50 having resigned. It shows that he was in shock and had no idea this would be the result. It was the best he could do to buy time to enable some semblance of plan B to emerge and allow a lot of uncertainty to start to dissipate. The problem is that there will now be a lot of political posturing for who is going to be leader and that is a pissing contest we could do without. As I said yesterday now is the time to unite and unite quickly. Form a solid Brexit team to assist with the negotiations. Make it all party. Let Carswell lead it. He is an MP and UKIP and really that would be about as Bexit independent as it can get. It would also introduce a bit of moderacy into the UKIP bandwagon and given the "racist concerns" that wont be a bad thing.
Lets face it the vote caught us all out and fair play to the people of Britain for doing that. It will go down as democracy in action. But it has caused a few tremors that need to be dealt with and dealt with quickly on all fronts.
