REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

Not necessarily on here, but small minded, bigoted and ignorant of others, ironically.
That has always been the case though hasn't it?

The attitude of a good proportion of leavers post win has been a disgrace too - and definitely there have been a number of racists incidents. Calling out for people to 'go home' should never be acceptable. Voltaire's famous quote has never been more apt than now.

Calling each side out for bigots etc helps no one, crowing and demeaning the views of the losers by winners looks as equally poor as the losers moaning. The country is very divided, the margin of victory shows that.

Let's all have a little respect, move on and make the most of what could be a bad few years. Fishing comments and denigrating each other need to be put to one side.

Starting a petition demanding another referendum because you didn't get the result you wanted...What was the point of the original?
I wasn't happy when the Conservatives won by almost a landslide in the last election but, hey-ho, that's elections

Wasn't the original wording from the petition from Nigel Farage? That if only x% vote and margin is only y% then it's not valid?

Doesn't really matter as what's done is done and I don't think the petition helps and I haven't signed it.

All I meant it would be useful if we all stopped the nastiness, crowing, sneering being sore losers and encouraging racism. Y'know help the rUK be a nice place to live for EVERYONE.

Yep can't disagree here. Apart from I wasn't fishing.

Oh yes I agree...Some of the rubbish and arguments happening on my Facebook page is kinda keeping me off it.
It's over, it's happened and we need to move on.

Much as I think we've made a terrible decision and do believe that many (although clearly not all) that voted leave did so for misguided reasons. I think those that wanted to remain less than 36 hours from the result being known are entitled to be disappointed, concerned and yes somewhat resentful just as the other side would have if it had gone the other way. However we are where we are now and for the good of the country we need to unite and make the best of it.

Deutsche Bank predicting that UK firm's stocks will outperform other EU countries by 5 percent.

It's subscription, but if the headline reflect the story, is it the 31% of the youth that are complaining or the 69% that didn't vote?

Obviously I cant say if everyone who voted thought the 350m pledge was a lie or not.

I do think those who make the claims should be held accountable if they turn out to be straight out lies. How to do that, no idea.

well if you think it a lie, they certainly won't be held accountable for it by imagining they said something else or simply accepting or forgetting it.

you'd hope that any promises like this are now reconfirmed and that the people who promised demonstrate they can deliver. and if a lie is proven then try not to reward the liars.

oh yeah, and don't shoot the messengers.

There were no exit polls so we have no idea of the age profile of voters, but I'd be interested to see where you got that 31% from? All indicators said around 60% for u25s

I've read it in a few places. I've also read it as low as 25%.

If we have no age profile then how are the young blaming the old and why are we getting graphs of which age group voted where?

The only thing we have is the YouGov final poll I posted at the start of the thread.

It's also fairly obvious that the leave profile was much more heavily weighted with older voters.

Turnout was in the region of 72% overall so if the youth vote was ludicrously low that would mean every other age bracket had a more or less 100% turnout which obviously didn't happen. Very possible that the lowest proportion of turnout was 18-24 year olds but it wouldn't be something comical like sub 50%.

I won't voice my opinion on the attitude and legacy of the Boomer generation again because people get very touchy. Everyone knows what I think about that anyway.
