REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

I'm not sure we'll lost that much leverage as other political forces will have an effect on the trade relationship. Other than the pound devaluing I can't see how trade will be immediately different as Europe has just split rather than become 2 different markets.

To our advantage we can now derail TTIP so that gives us a big advantage. Our disadvantage is that we will be uncertain and I can see a few US banks wanting to move from the city.

TTIP or it's equivalent will be delayed for the UK, but even if it's not wholy blocked in the EU, the UK government will go on a fast track to get a UK version signed asap and that wiĺl be a lot worse for the UK than the EU one.

Trading with the UK is now less profitable than it was yesterday. That fact alone necessitates change.

If we offer nothing that anyone else needs how is today less profitable than two days ago?

Not to my satisfaction but hey-ho.

another plus would be tourism. A weaker pound encourages visitors just at the right time. They will also be spending their money here when they come. Anyone doubt the value of tourism see Turkey and Tunisia whose industries have crippled by the terror attacks. They cant give away holidays and running at a loss with only 50% capacity. For every negative about brexit there will be a positive.

absolutely. the £350m per week they said they'll give to the nhs is massively positive and i'm looking forward to seeing the service becoming more secure.

it's great to see that liam fox, a previous critic of nhs funding, is now fully behind commitments like this.

A great mis-reading and misinterpretation of the intention. The "£350m should now go towards places that need more funding. For example the NHS" was my reading of that "campaign".
People have chosen to see that and expect ALL of the money to go into the NHS which was never going to happen

Campaigners promised to use the money the UK reportedly sends to the EU to fund the health service instead.

Asked by ITV's Good Morning Britain whether he could guarantee that the £350m that was sent to the EU would now go the NHS, Mr Farage said: “No I can’t, I would never have made that claim.

"That was one of the mistakes made by the Leave campaign.”
..

Not his place to promise anything as he's not an elected official?

yeah, i didn't know if kenny's point was aimed at me but to echo NWW, farage might have a view on it, but he hasn't made the commitment, isn't in government and isn't even an MP.

we're talking about commitments from experienced existing Government ministers and ex-ministers here (Johnson, Gove, Grayling, Fox) who understand government finances, affordability and all the implications. not a quip or an aside but emblazened in very large print.

quite clearly, this is not a "mistake" as farage has suggested. so let's get on with it.

No it's not. I would also say it wasn't Boris's place to promise something without the backing/agreement from the PM which of course he would never get. They made a big thing about the extra money for the NHS, inc a TV ad. Then take into account the actual figure they used was wrong so the promise of an extra £350m per week for the NHS was a big fat lie before you go further into details. Not that any of it now matters, what happened yesterday means jack shit today, its what will happen tomorrow....

Its just the way Elections seems to be run these days - Lies, Lies and hatred - and then deal with the outcome when you win.

Considering Osbourne said he would introduce an emergency budget if we vote leave that will see serious cuts, do you think he is going to invest extra money into the NHS? (as I stated above as well the £350m figure was a lie as numerous independant people pointed out)

We now have councils in places like Cornwall and Assembly members in Wales demanding the Government covers the money they will lose from the EU....these being places that voted to Leave. The dream that extra money will be given to the NHS is just that, a dream.

didn't their campaign also say that osborne's figures were simply a forecast, far too negative and an attempt to scaremonger people into voting to remain?

in which case, why are osborne's numbers now suddenly relevant to the brexit campaigners?

as a group of experienced government and ex-gvt ministers with access to the government budgets and full understanding of them, aren't they totally qualified to make those commitments based on their own forecasting? i mean we're not talking about non credible people here/aren't voters entitled to believe them?

even if you think it a lie, do you think everyone who voted took it as a lie, and if not don't you think individuals should be held accountable for what they campaign on in order to uphold any democratic process?

Obviously I cant say if everyone who voted thought the 350m pledge was a lie or not.

I do think those who make the claims should be held accountable if they turn out to be straight out lies. How to do that, no idea.

What exactly is the economical situation right now anyways? There's people who say that the pound is only at February levels and that FTSE is actually up? Bullshit or...?

Also - would not recommend looking through any trends on Twitter right now. Even for Twitter the things being spewed out is just nasty!

Way too early to make any judgement at the moment either way.

I think we'll know more this time next week.
