Refereeing question

Howard Webb says referees "generally supportive " of a video assistant and want to see a live trial.

TMO for football is a must, how many live trials do they want? Have they not seen a game of rugby?

Fair enough, I am just surprised that the referee cautioned him for both fouls.

The unofficial trial* in the biggest game in the world, the 2006 WC Final perfectly showed its benefits (Zidane sending off). You wonder why 9 years later they are still dithering about it.

* When the 4th official and referee decided on the spot to look at the tv

"We were preparing for what is always a feisty affair, and so having our players aware of their responsibilities should we be reduced to ten men seemed prudent".

End of SFA investigation for me.

No I must admit I haven't...

Though I did not know a gun was part of a referees equipment...!

When Darlo and I bumped into Kevin Friend on a train last season he said he wanted video tech.

I, on the other hand, have no desire for further sanitisation of football. I believe poor decisions add to the excitement!

Exactly. Video refs would take away spectacles like last Sat as well. Referee had a blinder and got every decision correct but because it was going against them PNE fans were out for his blood. Hilarious to watch them get so worked up about nothing, if you took the doubt away it'd have ruined one of the only enjoyable parts of the game.

Tbf I've been worked up about nothing before!!! I get a lot of enjoyment from leaving my usual quite and calm self at the entrance of a stadium and behaving emotively in the ground.

And the rewatching it after the game and realising I was wrong!

Not a great night for the officials at Swansea tonight. All three of Defoe's goals offside, joke penalty decision and then an even worse red card decision.

Just to prove that I do not automatically back up match officials, I just cannot understand why John Terry was not flagged offside when he scored the late equaliser. The assistant was in the correct position, and had a clear view. The goal should not have stood.

Erm, yeah you can't really back an official when they have clearly made a mistake.

The time you back the officials is when it's a controversial decision. Every Time.

What about the Leeds disallowed goal Frank?

I dont think I do. I look at the incident and make my opinion based on what I see. And more often than not the officials get it right.

Leeds have a free kick but Sheff Wed are making a sub, Forestieri coming off but taking ages. Ref blows for free kick to be taken and Leeds score, he gives the goal and then disallows it when he's told the sub was still happening even though he must have knew already. Never seen anything like it before.

I have just seen it. The first thing I would ask is why the referee blew the whistle to restart the game before Forestieri had left the pitch. If he thought the player was taking too long leaving the pitch he should have cautioned him. Going strictly by the laws of the game, the referee was correct, but maybe he should have used law 19. Common sense...!

In defence of match officials. I am watching the Ross County v Aberdeen and despite protests from both sides, the officials got it spot on.

The Ross County player was on side.
The foul was just outside the penalty area.
The red card was the correct decision.
