Refereeing question

It always seems to work well in Junior football and I have yet to see any problems.

I was a ref in the junior football and it never caused any problems. The sub procedure is still the same, players only enter at the half way line when the game is stopped etc.

Thanks Gents. As I said to my colleagues, I think we need to see how it works next season.

One further question. Is there any limit on the amount of times in a game that a rolling substitute can be made?

Slightly OT, but I play grass roots hockey, which has rolling substitues (unlimited and in play), and I have never encountered any issues.

A massive benefit is that it allows captains to split pitch time fairly, rather than having some poor sod stood on the side getting 15 minutes at the end.

The following question was raised at a referee association meeting.

Moments after a goal is scored against the opponent's team you notice a team-mate of the goal scorer had re-entered the field of play without your permission. He clearly did so before the goal was scored evident from the position he was when you notice him and after the previous restart when he left the field of play. He did not interfere with play during this time.

From where and how would you restart the game?

Goal, kick off as normal and book the offender?

Does he play Man Utd/Chelsea/Arsenal or Wolves/Burnley/Leicester?

Correct DW. Some thought the referee should stop the game, caution the offender, and restart with an indirect free kick to the defending team. But of course, the clue was in that the player did not interfere with play.

And that is what is wrong Kenny. The laws of the game are applicable to all football clubs, whether you be Arsenal or Accrington Stanley.

There has been a change to the offside law which may hopefully help officials in the coming season.:

In recent seasons, players have been allowed to occupy offside positions without necessarily being penalised depending on whether they were thought to be actively involved in play or not.

Now they will be punished if they clearly attempt to play a ball close to them when their actions have an impact on an opponent’s ability to play the ball.

Wasn't that the case under the previous rules anyway? I thought that if you were in an offside position, but didn't attempt to play the ball or were in a position where you affected any defender then you were OK to be ignored. Can't see that the above changes that.

That just sounds more confusing. The Yannick Bolasie example given for instance - how long does Bolasie have to be inactive before he can try and close a defender down again? If the forward leaves the defender to make the clearance and the other side score from that clearance the manager is going to go batshit mental so they are always going to make the challenge and get flagged.

What a the rules regarding the technical area?, Steve Bruce spent hardly any of the game within the confines of his.

4th official should tell him to step back. Frankly the fat fuck didn't influence anything though.

The only person who should leave the technical area is the physio, and then only when treating an injured player.

Do Premier league refs ever pass on a message through the fourth official to tell a manager to replace a certain player if they would like to keep the game eleven a side.
Francis Coquelin comes to mind.

Don't think you need a message from the ref for that. Pretty obvious really isn't it...
