Evening Wolves,

We lock horns again on Saturday after our close(ish) contest in October. I'd say I was confident but with Ben Pearson and Greg Cunningham both suspended and our inability to convert chances I can't see anything other than a 0-0 draw :D

Anyhow I'm here to give any Wolves who are visiting on Saturday and who like their ale a bit of a pointer in regards to the best places to get a pre/post-match ale in Preston. Unfortunately your visit is just a bit too early to take in the soon to open 'Orchard' & 'Plug & Taps' craft ale bars but Preston still has a few place where you can get some great cask and keg beers.

Firstly there is The Guild Ale House on Lancaster Road (PR1 1DD) in the City Centre. A microbar over two floors The Guild Ale House concentrates on good beer and chat with no TVs or music. Currently on the bar from 6 cask pumps and 4 keg taps are ales from Wishbone, Bristol Beer Factory, Thornbridge, Wigan Brewhouse, Castle Rock, Small World and Stockport breweries whilst two sizable fridges offer a variety of Belgium, German and craft beers in bottle and can. For those not into their ale there is Paulaner Helles and Hefeweizen and Bavo Pils on draught along with a craft cider. 'Flat' ciders are also available in flagons as well as small bottles of wine and prosecco. The GAH is 5 minutes walk from Preston station and 20/25 from Deepdale. For further info please see @theguildalehouse on Twitter and The Guild Ale House on Facebook/Instagram.

Up next is the jewel in Preston's crown, The Moorbrook on North Road (PR1 1NR). This awesome pub serves beer from all over the UK and beyond via 9 cask taps and 5 keg taps with more craft bottles and cans in the fridges which can be taken out for the train home. Currently on the bar are beers from Kernel, Zapato, Salopian, Ashover, Alphabet, Revolutions, North Riding, Vibrant Forest, Blackjack, Thwaites and Crafty Devil breweries. For those not into their ale there is Guinness, Moorbrook and Campus Belgium pilsners, Thatchers and Stella 4 on draught with bottles of Old Mout Cider, Peroni and Timmermans fruit beer in the fridge. There is also a wide range of wines and spirits. As well as great beer The Moorbrook also serve delicious freshly made woodfired pizza with a variety of toppings and handmade burgers for anyone wanting solid refreshment with their ale. The Moorbrook is approximately 15 minutes walk from Preston station and again to Deepdale with a large, £2 a day car park to the rear courtesy of a now closed B&Q for those in the car or minibus. For further information please see @TheMoorbrook on Twitter, The Moorbrook on Facebook or www.themoorbrook.com.

Aside from the GAH and Moorbrook are The Black Horse on Friargate, a stunningly beautiful Robinson's pub that serves four guest cask ales along with four from the brewery; The Ale Emporium on Fylde Road, a freehouse with 10 cask pumps; and The Princess Alice on Cambridge Walk, an art deco fronted pub with a jukebox, pool table, numerous TV screens and four cask ales usually all under £3.

If you visit one pub on Saturday I would recommend The Moorbrook, it is truly excellent and a step or two ahead of the rest including the very good Guild Ale House.

Safe journey up and hope to see some of you Saturday. I will no doubt be propping up a pint in The Moorbrook wearing a white 'BAXI' North End shirt.

PS The local fuzz will direct supporters to three 'easy to police' venues, The Vic & Station opposite the railway station, The Adelphi on Adelphi Street and The Sumners on Flintoft Way behind the ground. Whilst the first two are okay (the Vic is a good place to start and wait for the 12pm pubs to open) The Sumners is garbage and best avoided despite its close location to Deepdale. Bad ale, when there is any on and poor service which are two main reasons Greene King are desperately trying to find someone to run it.

Thank you very much for the info sir. I am sure our travelling fans will appreciate it. Must admit that Deepdale (Iwelumo day) was one of my fave trips back in the day.

(I may have got lost and walked all round the inner ring road trying to find our meeting point, but that is another story...)

I remember The Adelphi well from my University days. Many a time we went in for a lunchtime pint and ended up in there until last orders. Ah, the good old student life!

The Moorbrook sounds ace. Anywhere serving Kernel is worth a visit.

It was an absolute godsend when the current owners rescued the place from developers and dragged Preston into the world of modern ale. I shall be visiting tomorrow so will update this page and twitter in regard to what ales are on etc.

Glad you found Hail to the Ale. Very highly rated and walkable from my house.

If you are attending a match at Molineux, the Great Western is a safe haven for the real ale enthusiast away fan (as long as colours are discreet). It gets fucking packed now though with our crowds being much bigger than in recent seasons.

Slightly off topic but I saw your Police on twitter last night tweeting about the game, talking about all of Preston centre accepting away fans and answering questions and being helpful and polite. Very refreshing view to away fans that feels like to me. I remember Bradford being a bit like that, every match day officer your walked past said hello or greeted you was my experience.

If only this was the norm! Most tend to treat football fans as criminals, and is still a real issue IMO.

Also - I didn't realise Pearson was suspended. He's an annoying little git but a good footballer. That's a bonus for us.

Police outside Molienux this have started to do that this season. Catches you off guard when a Police Officer randomly greets you and says enjoy the game.

Blimey, click on the link below to the matchday thread from February 2016:

TEAMS | How the sides line-up for this afternoon's Sky Bet Championship clash between Wolves and Preston North End Football Club.

Wolves: Ikeme; Iorfa, Batth (c), Ebanks-Landell, Doherty; Price, Coady, Saville; van La Parra, Henry, Sigurdarson.
Subs: Martinez, Deslandes, Rowe, McDonald, Byrne, Mason, Le Fondre.

I despair.

It's incredible how far we've come from that squad from just 2 years ago!

First thing I read from that thread was this from Langers :icon_lol:

Well this'll be interesting. I don't know what he's doing

Pfft - done it walking the dog. Straight down the canal and come up from Aldersley. Only takes 45 minutes

Walk to Bilbrook and get the train on a matchday then rather than bellyaching about the bus...

I haven't been in there, not really my scene and I imagine it's not exactly comfortable if there are more than four people in there at any one time. Tiny tiny place.

We were awful. Player of the Season Matt Doherty was bloody atrocious, ripped apart by Reach all afternoon.

I liked this post

Loud chants of 'You don't know what you're doing' shouted at Jackett following the introduction of Rowe

We were diabolical. My best mate's son was the mascot that day and he was the best individual in a Wolves shirt on the pitch. He had just turned 6.

Yes but remembers Fosun have ripped the soul out of our club. We should be looking back on those days wishing we could go back

Yeah we generally have a good bunch doing matchday and PC Elliot is a decent sort.

The only time I've seen it get silly recently was when some Leeds fans last season took exception at being escorted to Deepdale at 13:30 and when passing The Moorbrook made a run for it into the pub. The fuzz followed and things got a bit heavy.

Taken from the dark side about tomorrows referee (apparently)

"Match Day referee Jones has officiated 31 games in 2017/18, showing 85 yellow cards and six red cards so far"

Mah!....hope Neves escapes a card so we can have him for the Fulham match (which i envisage will be a delightful, on the deck football match)
