Pre-Season 2017

2-0 up vs Bala now, Will Randall with the goal

Team vs Bala is
Harry Beasley; Hakeem Odoffin, Anthony Breslin, Ross Finnie, Connor Johnson, Ryan Leak, Dan Armstrong, Christian Herc, Donovan Wilson, Niall Ennis, Will Randall

Intrigued to see how somebody like Marshall would fit into today's formation. Could he be an option as a wing back? He doesn't strike me as somebody wholly suited to that Chelsea style front three.

Coady seems to now be a centre half. Classic bench option you'd have thought, can cover 3 positions

Niall Ennis pust U23's 1-0 up vs Bala Town. Wish he'd been given the chance to go to Austria with the main squad

Agree, Bright is no forward either so it would have made sense to play him IMO. Bright could definitely play one of the wide positions in the 343.

Interesting to hear Price has impressed Nuno. And he played well today for sure. If you can get all the positives out of the game he is a very useful player to have. Unfortunately under the last few managers as the football has been very functional that has left him very limited.

It will be very interesting if Nuno develops him into a player who can sit in the back three. I would never have said he had the intelligence or the technique to fill a role like that (or as a holding midfield, which he might become one we have built up from the back) but you can tell he is the type who is just happy to play and help the team.

Looks like 343 is definitely going to be our formation - the middle 2 will be key.
I really wanted Ronan to play, but Neves and Ronan as a 2 does seem a bit light.

I'm wary of having just the two midfielders there. Could be easily exposed but depends on how Nuno sets it up. I noticed at times the centre back on the opposite side to the ball would push up slightly. And possibly as I mentioned the position Coady played today becoming a holding player. Not necessarily worried about Ronan mind, he can play deep or as part of the front three I reckon.

That said, for now I am more interested in the style of play regardless of the formation. There were some good signs to start with today. I would love to see a Wolves team playing out from the back comfortably, and dictating possession.

If we do start playing the ball around a lot more, as it seems, one of my bigger concerns is the home crowd tbh. We can be an impatient bunch sometimes, and the gerrit forward mob would've groaned like fuck at some the times the ball was played from advanced, wide positions back towards the half-way line.

I'm really excited at the thought of a possession based style. You could already see what he's trying to achieve - be very interesting to see how it changes as the game's tempo goes up, in terms of pressing

I doubt Coady will be anything but emergency cover at CB. Bennett, Batth and Hause will all be ahead of him. Saiss too on the left side of the three, a la Morocco.

There were a couple of times when the ball went out wide & the obvious next move was a cross in, but the ball went backwards again & ultimately a long way back.

Have no problems with trying a different approach, but the right decisions need to be made. The preseason games are the ones to work this out though

What's the view on saiss today? I read a different forum and they're all slagging him, but coadys interview says

"Ruben (Neves) is a massive acquisition for us but we've still got Dave Edwards in there, Pricey is there, Saiss I thought was outstanding today."

Really enjoyed the U23s game. Shattered now but will sort out some player ratings in the morning.

Fans are already over doing it. We've played one friendly which will have no impact on anything to be honest apart from formation, style and getting players fit but i've already seen several players called shit or Jack Price being labelled as the second coming again despite the fact that everyone knows what he can do and he will eventually go back to being what he is.

You can't judge any performance on the majority of friendlies but it was good to see several players make their debut and that we might actually have a style of play and a plan this season for once. That's what i will take from today.

Was that Doherty with the assist?

I can see the thinking with Coady in the middle of the 3 CB's he wants someone capable of bringing the ball out so I fully expect that to be Miranda with Boly and Bennett or Hause either side. To be honest I don't mind Doc as much as a wing back as an out and out FB I think he's dreadful but I hope he will be back up if that to Ofosu when he's fit.

Clearly Nuno wants us to retain the ball, I am more than happy with that we don't have the players to get it forwards quickly .. ie someone to hold the ball up or at least decent in the air to flick on.

Not sure if it's a trial or not but Costa and Graham will be inside forwards rather than wingers based on last night, perhaps he will try other formations during pre season and decide.

Price and Neves could work well IMO and I think it will be a much better set up for price who can't play alone whilst Edwards runs around contributing nothing. A possession game will not suit Edwards one bit so will be surprised if he stays in.

Much to ponder but if they sort themselves out I will pay for the remaining pre season games, desperate to see how this new look side develops.

Already signs we have the players for it and Dicko took his goal very well and like others have mentioned he looks sharp, we have to remember how bad that injury was he clearly needed time. A fully fit and firing Dicko will be great for us this season let's hope that is the case.

Be interesting to see if we continue with zonal marking for corners in the next pre season games - must admit I'm not a great fan of it.

Lovely to get a clean sheet, but how unlucky was that lad with the two free kicks! All round some promising work from Douglas Coady & Price, and a great strike from Nouah
