Pre-Season 2017

Lucky to win the game in the end (not that the score matters but always nice to get a positive result) - two very good free kicks from Bremen and they'll be disappointed to lose that. Didn't learn much from the second half as they were all over us, but we were knocking it around really nicely in the first half and Nuno definitely has something to work with. Douglas, Coady + Jack Price the stand out performers for me.

Played off the park second half, they hit the wood work a couple of times, but winning is a habit so great start.

Bremen hit the post with Ruddy standing there surprised by the rebound.

Yup. Didn't think he looked exactly composed there. Still, 100% record in Europe this season.

Thought they all did well. I think you saw when Deslandes & Simpson came on that our overall quality dropped and we struggled to keep the ball but apart from that I was happy with all of the first teamers. Saiss, Price, Cavaleiro, Boly, Dicko and Douglas the best of the bunch for me.

Of the new guys Boly was assured in defence but missed a good chance from a corner, Douglas looked very useful roaming forward down the left, Neves had a few nice touches and a shot from range that went just wide and Miranda/Bennett kept their shape well but didn't have a massive amount to do outside of that.

thought we looked far more composed and easy on the ball first half - reverted to scrappy football second half (the Edwards factor?) and couldn't string may passes together. yes first match i know, but a game of 2 very different halves.

It wasn't just Edwards who came on, there were other subs which contributed to the drop in quality.

Cav looks like a different player!

I didn't think Deslandes did all that bad. And he's certainly packed on some muscle.

Indeed, maybe things will not change as much as I had hoped.

Yep, it's the same old same old.

With the greatest respect I think that when we lose games you'll post these kind of latently negative posts.

Not being negative at all. I just cannot understand why Batth is still captain.

Deslandes was poor and it's clear to see why we're after Heise now if we're playing wing backs. You can't expect Douglas to parade up and down the left side for 46 games.

Boly looks an absolute beast. Very composed on the ball, not afraid to play in the opposing half, quick and dangerous from set pieces.

Coady surprised me in the middle of the three central defenders. Very vocal and composed on the ball.

Zyro looks well off the pace, Bright struggled too.

Price very tidy and if the rumours of Nuno being impressed by him are true he could easily be in the starting XI v 'Boro.

Douglas offered natural balance on the left side, got forward impressively and looked snappy in the tackle.

Edwards and Mason in particular came on at half time and were like ghosts.

Would be awful management to bin Batth off from captain at this stage of pre season. He leaves, it sorts itself, he doesn't play it sorts itself no need to bring that can of worms to the surface yet.

Niall Ennis pust U23's 1-0 up vs Bala Town. Wish he'd been given the chance to go to Austria with the main squad

Fully agree with this, Deslandes was poor. I think Heise will sign and if that formation is used we will need him or at least someone else that can play LWB.

All still early days, Nuno will still want to look at different systems and combinations and the main thing is it looks like there were no injuries. Pleased to see the lads knocking the ball about though.

From what I could see off a very poor feed Boly looked to be a superb acquisition

As to Batth & the captaincy - don't think it matters that much as not likely to be in the starting team any time soon
