O'Neil Confirmed

I’d agree our squad is probably better than about 5-6 teams, problem is the word “probably” pretty much entails that there’s not a lot between us though. It also suggest the small gap in quality could be bridged by tactical nous, injuries and bad luck etc
I’d have last season Leicester had a better squad than Forest, Bournemouth and Everton
They went down due to having one buffoon in charge to long and another out his depth.

This is why I couldn't understand when people were turning their noses up at the likes of Michail Antonio, Kelechi Iheanacho & to a lesser degree, Che Adams. It's a very TWF thing to do (to stick noses in the air at these types of player), because they're not "exciting" enough on paper. I think we can all appreciate that none of them are peak Ronaldo, but equally, all three of them would offer Premier League experience, would hit the ground running, would offer more goal threat than the anonymous Fabio, would have the ability to press from the front and ultimately, all of them would have improved our squad.

When you look at the other clubs in/around us in the league, the following clubs have:

Bournemouth: Dominic Solanke
Burnley: Lyle Foster
Palace: Edouard/Mateta
Everton: Beto/DCL
Fulham: Raul
Luton: Carlton Morris/Elijah Adebayo
Forest: Awoniyi
Sheff Utd: Archer/McBurnie

There is no logical explanation as to why we should be scoring less goals than those teams - so ultimately, it has to be down to tactical/mindset issues. My confidence in GoN wasn't exactly high when we first announced him, but I was willing to give him a chance. After 4 games, I'm starting to move towards agreeing with those posters that have mentioned their concerns that the Man Utd performance is starting to look like a one off because GoN hadn't had much time to implement his own ideas. Since then, as the squad has spent more time with him, we've gone downhill and the most recent performances (even with a win v Everton) are setting a worrying trend. Then we've got his post match presser where he's already starting to witter on like Lage.

We're clearly going to stick with him, but to already be talking about the Luton match being a "six pointer" - how have we got ourselves in to this position?!

We are lucky that some of the other clubs in this division have the shite listed above within their ranks. We have good players in our squad, but we'll only keep our head above water if they are managed properly and right now, from what I have seen, and trying to be as fair as possible, I worry about the manager and I think he could single-handedly lead us in to a relegation scrap that we don't need to be part of.

I guess the one hope is that we do actually have some players to come in that should freshen things up, I'd feel a lot more worried if we didn't have Bueno, Enso, Doyle and Bellegarde waiting in the wings, even if I'm not convinced how useful they'll be.

Yesterday was basically Wolves minus Nunes without any of the cash having been spent.

Awonyi has remarkably turned into RVN, but the others probably won't get 30 goals between them. You'd think/hope Sasa and to a lesser extent Fabio could outscore the rest.

I'm not sure Fabio could outscore anybody based on yesterday's performance.

Very thin gruel for the Fabio truthers yesterday, not even an offside goal to cling to. More aimed at the likes of Judah and Leister than anyone specifically on here

His subs should have been Bueno for Ran, Sasa for silva, and Gonzalez for Sarabia.
At least show some intent.
Added: just spoke to my dutch mate, PSV supporter, he says what we are seeing now, is what we will get.

At least he scored the odd goal for PSV though.

Wouldn’t say Cunha has been any better in the last 2 games though either. Sasa looks better than them both and should be first choice with Fab/Cunha supporting. Still think a recognisable style of play would help our forward players a bit more especially Fab and Cunha with the runs they need to make.

Before the match yesterday on the Sky coverage, I couldn't help but laugh at the stupidity of it all and the situation we find ourselves in.

They had a camera behind some of our lads doing shooting drills in the warm up, and just as David Jones said "Fabio Silva has been given the number 9 shirt but hasn't scored a Premier League goal in his last 29 appearances", Fabio stepped up and hit the lamest, weakest left foot shot straight in to the arms of our keeper. Theo Walcott then chirped up and said something like "if he is shooting like that you can see why".

We've got to start Sasa moving forward but I don't think starboy will accept being on the bench again. Giving him the number 9 shirt makes as much sense as giving Kilman the armband. Someone is making stupid decisions.

I think the centre forward berth is Sasa’s from after the international break with two extra weeks of fitness in his body.

I have spent seasons hoping desperately that Fabio would come good but im getting mighty close to conceding defeat. Yesterday was a 1/10 performance and only that if you were marking at the generous end of the scale.

Fabio is just an issue, full stop.

- Doesn't look good enough to cut it in the PL. Doesn't get in to goalscoring positions. Doesn't hold the ball up well. Doesn't link play particularly well. Not sure he even wants to be here despite us trying to boost his confidence by handing him the number 9 shirt.
- We've already tried to loan him out and give him regular football. He scored a few goals but clearly the evidence is already there to show that it means nothing when he comes back here. Goals on loan does sadly not equate to goals here.
- No one is giving us half of the transfer fee we paid.
- Because we missed out on our striker transfer targets, we're now left with no choice but to stick with him and just 'hope' he somehow starts scoring goals. No goals in 29 PL appearances tells it's own story in terms of how likely that is.

I think Sasa is still quite a bit off starting in the Prem unfortunately.

Yesterday aside he does get into goal scoring positions tbf. I think that if we actually looked like we had any kind of plan of how to attack it would help but I do agree that Sasa should be starting

I think we have to be patient with Sasa. He turned down the opportunity to go away with Austria this week and I think that shows where he is right now. It might be another month or so until we're happy giving him consistent minutes.

I agree that he'll end up as our main man eventually. O'Neil has pretty much killed any kind of positional freedom in an attacking sense so you'll see us move more towards relying on set pieces and crosses from wide areas as the season goes on which will obviously suit Sasa more than Cunha & Fábio. He'll drop Gomes for Doyle for this reason as soon as he thinks he's ready as well.
