O'Neil Confirmed

Fabio's a league one level striker being managed by a league one level coach and backroom team.

Not just this comment but several others are why it becomes pointless talking about Fabio in particular. Everything negative gets magnified and the hyperbole is just silly. Everyone knows we want more from him and he needs to show more but offered less than nothing is bullshit isn’t it and stuff like he doesn’t get in to goal scoring positions when he’s missed 2 1 on 1s this season already is just factually incorrect.

There’s loads to look at with him and whether he’s ever gonna have the impact we want/need and i think there’s plenty of negatives but imo most of the posts regarding Fabio aren’t impartial and that’s frustrating as it is for most other things like GO, Sa etc…
The hyperbole cuts both ways. There's been a constant exaggeration of his qualities particularly since he went on loan last year coupled with an exaggeration of how he performed whilst out. That over the Summer lead to such confidence from those people that this season we'd see a different player. The 3 biggest weaknesses before he went away were he was weak, was loose in possession and snatched at chances. None of that has changed. As I said previously away from this site more than on it, although you have previously been probably his biggest advocate on here over the years. He's not improved and contextually isn't a kid any longer

No not really. His sum contribution to the game is negative.

The point is, Silva has to start atm
He doesn't really though now. Sasa managed 60 mins in the cup last week, and while starting at Everton was a bit too soon after that game, he can probably start the next game against Liverpool if the manager wants him to.

I actually think Silva will be a better impact sub at the minute. Same as Hwang is currently.

Won't matter under this guy.

I agree with Lycan, Slink and others, without a semblance of a tactical plan/ style then it doesn't matter who we play.

GoN even had the brass balls to say we scored 2 good goals yesterday and that usually gets you something away from home. That's Lage levels of drivel.

Very thin gruel for the Fabio truthers yesterday, not even an offside goal to cling to. More aimed at the likes of Judah and Leister than anyone specifically on here
Yeah, I’m in the Fabio will be on camp, but he was very poor yesterday.

I think this is the big thing for me. I don’t think Fabio, Cunha, Sarabia etc… are anywhere near as bad or ineffective as they looked yesterday but as long as we have no style of play, no patterns of play, no consistency in approach to games then it’s going to be very hard for the forward players apart from Sasa. I think he will be ok because players naturally will get the ball in to him because of his size.

Having someone like Sasa to play off (and score goals) will make a big difference to us (similar to DCL for Everton).

It might end up being a bit agricultural at times, but will be more effective than what we do now.

For me the difference is simple.
When i looked at Enzo Gonzales, i thought, wo ho! Nobody is gonna push this guy around. As for Fabio, i'm only 5'6", but i would have taken one look in my playing days, and laughed.
get my retaliation in early, and that would be the end of that. Enzo is a scutter as we used to say.

Something in the eyes tells us he doesn't get pushed around.

Fabio needs a bully cut

One of the things that stood out for me with Fabio in the Brighton match was when he scored that offside goal. He had all the time to know and see where the two defenders marking him was, to set himself up properly for the tap in and to be off-side, even a little bit showed his lack of positioning and awareness at this level which is worrying. It's a bit like a spinner in cricket getting a no ball. In those circumstances it shouldn't happen.

I worry about the drop off from Cunha, from the way he played on first game to most recent - is it all to be put on the coach for his role? Like it or not, he's our most "talented" player, whether he's able to play to that talent here is another question.

Same for Sarabia, he was established in a Messi-led PSG the season before we signed him, there's definitely a player there but is it one who's suited for an English relegation scrap? Not sure, and he hadn't started well (unless you've only watched the Blackpool game).

Not sure 3 PL defeats in 4 is particularly making strides, and I'm not really sure what the new system is, otherwise great headline

Just covering his arse with the coach, new RCB incoming. Capt Max won't be getting dropped.

I wanted him for skipper, I`m starting to change my mind.

Lemina was a far more suitable candidate.

- Unquestionably in the team on merit, every week
- Clearly a big character and influential
- Tons of experience
- English isn't an issue
- Has bought into a lot of the off-field stuff already (see the video with the young blind lad last season)

Other than speaking English, Kilman fits none of those categories.
