O'Neil Confirmed

That's it though. There's nothing to know. So why is he managing our club?

This would be an uninspiring, cheapskate appointment if we were looking to get promoted from the Championship again, let alone about to start our sixth PL season in a row
I suppose the point is that those who were against Lage, had all Summer to bitch and moan...and I did. With O'Neil it's a week so very quickly we are at the reality stage. Let's see what that reality is and double down or eat humble pie

You know why.

We went shopping with nothing in our pockets and decided he was the best option.

Club could have been extra lazy and picked up Frank or Nathan. At you least you know we can get worse if GON fails.

I know why, but I'm also getting told it's a Matt Hobbs football decision

I think Collins was possibly a Sellars/Hobbs signing and, let’s face it, we made money on him despite him being pretty underwhelming.

Guedes and Nunes were very much Gestifute favours.

Lage’s defining moment was playing our best central midfielder in the middle of a back three for his last game. I mean, what a way to go…

If O'Neil had been totally out of his depth last season I could see why this would be a problem. But he patently wasn't. He did good work with what he had.

Again, worth noting that Bournemouth's underlying numbers continued to be better than ours, even after Julen arrived here.

I'd say that, at least that it's possible.

We have absolutely no idea what O'Neil's interview was like.

Of course, if money were no object that likely would have changed things, but I don't know what good it does to entertain a hypothetical like that unless you own a huge share in Fosun.

Within the parameters he's able to operate in.

I don't think he'd do this by choice, and I don't think anyone is saying he is.

Not if he had the entire market to work with, unfortunately that's not the case.

We don't know what the criteria is but you can hazard a guess at British, out of work and willing to operate under a head coach/DoF model.

Jeff: Matt find a new manager that is a) out of work b) happy to work under the current conditions c) ideally managed already (more than 5 games will do. d) won't cost us £10m per year like Julen and his team e) get it sorted before the season starts.
Should be easy to do, cheers.

How can you be indifferent to the person who's going to manage our club? You talk as if the only options open to the club were Lopetegui or an unheralded novice.

After all the shite decisions Fosun and their employees have made since Nuno, with all the cost-cutting and lies, it blows my mind that people are genuinely giving them the benefit of the doubt with this, it's like Lage taught us nothing
No one's giving Fosun the benefit of the doubt, some including me are affording GON the benefit of the doubt.

I think his appointment is ludicrous but he has my full support for now...

It benefits no one if he fails, so here's hoping he doesn't.

So in the space of half an hour I'm told by multiple posters that the club really had no choice but to re-sign Doc, look at taking on the West Ham pensioners and appoint a novice manager who even Sheffield Wednesday wouldn't touch. No choice.

And then; 'his appointment is ludicrous but he has my full support for now' :D

Either you guys are losing your shit or I am...

If nothing else, despite the limitations in place, there is someone from the footballing side of the club now making footballing decisions.

It isn’t Shi in a sweet shop or picking up the phone to Mendes to ask him a favour of who’s out of work in his stable at the minute.
