O'Neil Confirmed

I'd rather have a guy with half a year's experience in a Prem relegation fight than a guy with half a year's experience in the top half of the Champo, frankly. (Speaking abstractly, I don't know what else may be on Beale's CV).

He was always seen as “the brains” behind Gerrard at Rangers, and Villa seemed to rate him highly as a coach.

We've now had three managers since Nuno and I prefer absolutely none of them to him. But that was our own stupid fault.
Fair, obviously, but it did seem like Nuno's time here had come to an end (whether due to COVID, Fosun, whatever it was, something just didn't seem right).

We were genuinely crap in the second half of 2020/21, it's true. Although all from a position where there was as good as a 0% chance of relegation.

He had more than earned the time and opportunity to turn it around.

We replaced him with a complete loser for no reason.

The weirdo kids (they are kids, pretty much) on Twitter who hate him need a solid cuff round the ear.

He made the wrong call with Jota/Adama and Olmo/Podence but I can forgive him that. I would never ever have sacked him.

Fair enough.

Like I say, I’m not pro-GON, just indifferent. Despite my reservations around Lop I’d obviously prefer the Europa League winning head coach with a flurry of signings this year, but it’s not the situation we’re in sadly.

How can you be indifferent to the person who's going to manage our club? You talk as if the only options open to the club were Lopetegui or an unheralded novice.

After all the shite decisions Fosun and their employees have made since Nuno, with all the cost-cutting and lies, it blows my mind that people are genuinely giving them the benefit of the doubt with this, it's like Lage taught us nothing

He and Shi weren't speaking according to yesterday's Johnny Phillips article

Indifferent in the sense I’m not seeing it as the end of the world and am willing to give him time. I know nothing about the bloke.

I'm giving Hobbs the benefit of the doubt, not them.

If he'd been running the show earlier our midfield would be Enzo Fernandez alongside Gomes and we'd probably have one or the best young midfield pairings in the league.

That's it though. There's nothing to know. So why is he managing our club?

This would be an uninspiring, cheapskate appointment if we were looking to get promoted from the Championship again, let alone about to start our sixth PL season in a row

The same Hobbs that now wants to pack our team with West Ham pensioners? I thought it was Enzo OR Gomes anyway, not both?

You know why.

We went shopping with nothing in our pockets and decided he was the best option.

Club could have been extra lazy and picked up Frank or Nathan. At you least you know we can get worse if GON fails.

I maintain Lage was a way worse appointment.

- Can't speak English properly
- Presided over literally Benfica's worst run in their entire history
- We were in a far greater position of strength
- Sacked our best manager in 40+ years for that
- Half page CV
- Arm waving cunt

Not sure that's the case. Don't forget we can't sign anyone even on a free transfer and I guess west ham will want money for them.

Not sure on both/one of stuff though, maybe.

Did they really try to reappoint him or was that just bollocks?

Don't get me wrong, I have no particular axe to grind with Hobbs, but I'm not ready to acclaim him as a club legend after a half-decent couple of transfer windows (where we still bought Guedes and Collins and overpaid for Nunes)

But he wants to (potentially) pack our team with West Ham pensioners in the current market we’re shopping in. That’s not his fault, that’s down to financial mismanagement from above. He has however identified Gomes, Lemina and Dawson. He identified Enzo and Scott (it remains to be seen how the latter does at Bournemouth). Signing Matt Doherty was even a “best we’re gonna get in this situation” deal.

Don’t think anyone is acclaiming him as a club legend, they’re just trusting he potentially knows his stuff.
